“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1

…That’s what they said when “that carpenter” declared to be the Messiah. And wasn’t he of illegitimate birth? But He died and rose again. “Not possible” is also what they said in the early 1900’s about the possibility of breaking a four minute mile. The medical knowledge of the day actually suggested that the strain of such a feet would kill a person by overloading the bodies ability. This, however, did not stop Roger Bannister from becoming the first man to run a sub-four-minute mile. Bannister is even quoted as saying, upon standing up after collapsing at the end of the race, “I must be dead”. Bannister broke the threshold of possibility for every runner on the planet. So much so, his record only lasted 46 days before many began to run a sub-four-minute mile, too.

Sometimes all it takes is enough belief for the impossible to achieve it. And when you do, you are achieving the impossible for others, too. It takes only one with enormous possibility thinking to change the thinking of everyone. It will take courage, tenacity, perseverance and a stoic faith that no amount of criticism or discouragement can shake.

The key to achieving anything that seems impossible is to die to self-preservation and self-will and allow our Maker, the Ultimate Possibility Thinker, to run our race in us and through us. Become Decided, that’s the best thing you can do! ~Nicole

Your attitude will always be the primary predictor of your latitude.

All people are basically the same with subtle differences. Differences in temperament, upbringing, environment and abilities. But one key ingredient will be found in the life of anyone who is destined to succeed…a positive attitude. Attitude is always decided in the heart and becomes an outward manifestation of the internal spiritual man/woman. An inner positive mindset and self-image is different from knowing social graces and putting on a happy face. Our inner self always comes out, usually under duress or stress. If you are struggling and maybe even failing to maintain a positive outlook in matters either small or great, don’t lose faith! God is with you and desires to give good gifts, especially the gift of a great attitude! Be encouraged this morning with a few facts:

Robinson Crusoe was written in prison. John Bunyan wrote Pilgrim’s Progress while in jail. The History of the World was written from prison as well. Martin Luther translated the Bible under confinement. Beethoven was almost completely deaf and grieved with deep sorrow when he created his greatest works.

God who has begun a good work in you will be faithful to complete it. Express your gratitude to your Maker who is creating in you a Supernatural Light that needs no artificial lighting to spotlight! He wants to radiate from within! For you, with the right attitude, nothing is impossible! God believes in you enough to create you and I believe in you, too! ~Nicole

Devotion: Just Because…

Posted in Uncategorized at 5:45 am by Broken & Brave

“But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” James 1:6

Do you struggle with doubt? Some are clear and decided by nature while others second guess every thought, action, decision they have. Whatever your temperament, you can rest assured in how much God loves you. God doesn’t love like we do, His love never dies…it is eternal. Because His love is eternal he carries a different mindsetĀ than we do. He is aware of the immediate needs of people, but he is not restricted by them. He is always focused on the big picture of your life. He is not only in the details of your every day, but he is carefully planning, detailing and orchestrating His Magnificent plan for your future, too. He can see what we cannot, He is working in ways we aren’t aware of. He is bigger than any disappointments, insecurities, fears, setbacks, obstacles and pain. No matter what your days hold, never doubt for one moment how much He adores you. In fact, I envision Him looking down from heaven, pointing you out to the angels and saying, “Hold on, Dear One, because you belong to me.” ~Nicole

Devotion: Divine Protection

“Continuing steadfastly in prayer.” Romans 12:12

Yesterday I felt the leaning on my heart of God. I had a full day and something inside me kept inclining me to want to ask a neighbor to get my middle school boys from school and I’d just get my high schooler who needs to be picked up later. But I didn’t do it. There I was, sitting at a stop sign intersecting a busy street with boys in tow, when a small car takes the corner at a very high speed and t-bones my vehicle. The whole thing ended as a hit and run.

In reflection I believe God was trying to prevent my accident. But I missed it. I was too busy to realize it was God leaning on my heart and not my own mind.

Even when we miss it, His Grace prevails. None of us were injured and a car can be fixed. I had many witnesses and they were people I knew! It’s amazing how much comfort there was in that in the moment.

Allow God to settle your heart. He is with you, watching your every move and sending His angels to protect you. He’s got you covered! ~Nicole

Devotion: Anchor Your Heart

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:25 am by Broken & Brave

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Hebrews 6:19

Do you know how valuable you are?
Ships have anchors. Anchors serve a purpose…they hold the boat in place. An anchor can steady a ship out at sea during a tumultuous storm. An anchor can hold a boat in the bay of crystal blue serenity. An anchor provides safety, security and protects the owners investment in the vessel. It will also protect the lives of those in care to the vessel.

God desires you anchor your heart to His. You are valuable to him. He has greatly invested in you. He enjoys to be in your company and to reflect on the scenery…YOU! Allow yourself to Hope for the greater in your life. Begin to take a few risks for the better. Dare to trust and believe God has your safety and security in mind. He isn’t going to let anything happen to you. He will always protect and provide. You can trust Him! ~Nicole

Devotion: A Ram In The Thicket

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:24 am by Broken & Brave

“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”Heb. 13:16

Last night our church had a safe Halloween alternative with games, treats, candy of course and some entertainment. My boys really enjoyed this activity last year and wanted to bring a bunch of kids this year. Luke, my 12 yr. old, invited more kids than my car can hold. A few met us there, a few couldn’t go and one boy from his class came home from school with us so he could come. He lives with his grandmother on the far south side of town and when I spoke with her on the phone the night before I assured her I would drive him home after. She then shared how she was recovering from an ailment and had made no plans for the boys evening at all. Her next words blessed my heart deeply…she said, “but God always has a ram in the thicket.”

I thought I was blessing my son by agreeing to take a bunch of junior high boys out, but God was up to something bigger that blessed me more than anyone I believe.

Be generous. What may seem like an insignificant act of kindness or giving or encouragement might impact and provide an answer to someone else’s prayers. It truly is better to give than to receive. ~Nicole
