Walk Your Hips Off…


Women come in all shapes and sizes and I think this is beautiful. Some women are curvy and some are trim, but one thing we all have in common is when we gain weight, we will each gain it a bit in the hips and thighs. I think it is a part of God’s design…perhaps to protect our reproductive organs as we are givers of life. Or perhaps our hips are there to rest a young life upon like a homemade, organic sling. Whatever God’s recipe for the female physique, to keep it trim and fit we must use it!

There are all types of training methods, philosophies and beliefs. The key is to find what works best for you. Here are a few good questions to ask yourself when beginning a workout/exercise regimen:

  1. What is your goal? Not just goal weight/leanness, but overall health.
  2. What is your lifestyle? I’m talking your daily schedule, family, work, hours, etc. This isn’t going to change much so you much make fitness fit in a way that is doable.
  3. What type of activities do you enjoy? I tell people all the time that if they don’t enjoy the exercise/activity they will not stick with it. It has to be something you enjoy and maybe even look forward to. (I truly look forward to my training. It is refreshing, releasing and therapeutic for me both mentally, physically and emotionally).



Here is another helpful tip:

Do not be intimidated by fitness or fit people. Except for the occasional exception of the extremely vain, most fit people are very passionate about health and fitness and enjoy encouraging others on their journey.

You may be asking yourself questions like this…

“How do I  go about selecting an activity if I haven’t tried a lot of things?” Or maybe when you have it yielded less than desirable results (usually due to lack of commitment or guidance)?

“Is it going to be expensive?”

“Am I going to need a lot of equipment or gadgets?”


You don’t need a lot of money, fancy equipment or a gym membership to get in shape. All you need is Hope, Desire and a Resilient mindset to overcome whatever the wellness obstacle may be. Remember always, YOU CAN DO THIS!

In fact, I want to share a quick story of how I walked an entire inch off of my hips…and I wasn’t trying!

In the summer of 2000 my husband and I went on the trip of a lifetime. We journeyed down under to beautiful Australia for the Olympic Games. We stayed a few days in Sydney at a hotel in the Circular Quay by the Opera House, then we ventured to the home some locals who lived just south of Sydney in a little beach town located on the Peninsula called Cronula. The host family was very accommodating and drove us around a bit, but they still had work and their lives to live and we were with them for 3 entire weeks! They lived about one mile from the train station, so John and I would frequently walk to the train station and then take the train wherever we wanted to go. When at the Olympic venue site it was more and more endless walking. We were having such a great time exploring the sites and scenery that I was not at all focused on the fact that we walked miles every day. I couldn’t even say how many miles we walked, but I would guess 5-7 miles/day. At the time I had two children and was in good shape. I didn’t have as much muscle as I have now, nor was I as lean ( I was not yet off of sugar or eating super clean. I was eating the typical “healthy” American diet). I was wearing a size 4, which was trim for me as my natural setpoint always put me at a 6 (keep in mind I have a very petite frame. Small people gain five pounds and it is noticeable and uncomfortable). My hips were probably measuring around 35.5 inches when we arrived. But by the time we left my pants that I purchased for the trip were sagging off of my hips. I did measure them and I know for a fact that I lost an entire inch over three weeks time. I did nothing different other than all the walking. In fact, walking was the only exercise I got.  Ever since then I have been an extreme believer in the power of walking for fitness. Many may put it down and say it’s not a challenge, but just because it’s not for someone else doesn’t mean it can’t be right fit for you!

If you are feeling frustrated or discouraged with your wellness journey or efforts to lose weight, be encouraged! You may only be a walk away from a trimmer you. You may not be able to start right in at 5 miles a day, but if you make small beginnings and remain consistent and persistent you can add upon those small beginnings and make great gains in your wellness, as well as your confidence and renewed sense of accomplishment. You Are A New Creation…

When I went to college I had a passion for nutrition/wellness. But I truly didn’t know exactly how I wanted to use such a degree. I didn’t want to meal plan in a hospital, but I wanted to use it for helping people grab hold of their best self. I guess I had a vision of what I do now, but didn’t have the resources or clarity of the vision to launch it at the ages of 18-22. I truly wanted to major in “helping people”.

When God plants a purpose in your heart, if you continue down the path He will guide your steps and bring all the needed ingredients to fulfill His Majestic Recipe called your life. When you follow that lead, it unfolds into an Original and Creative Masterpiece.

Last night my client had the epiphany that her love for conditioning her body was her act of worship to her Creator. She has been on an amazing journey to better health, but didn’t want the distorted world view media projects. You can love health and fitness and be purposeful toward it with a healthy mindset. The world says “be vain” but God says celebrate how you were made!

Once you find your Bliss, you begin to radiate it and it flows through you creating bliss in others, too. It’s a Holy Flow that makes you Glow! ~Nicole

Woven Tight…

Part of being a good friend is being a good listener. It is more than just hearing words spoken, but listening for heart expressed. Sometimes people do not need advice, only a shoulder to lean on and the kindness of a gentle ear followed by tight lips. Jonathan was such a friend to David. The Bible says his soul was knit to David’s soul and loved him as his own soul. Reading this passage in 1 Samuel 18 would make anyone desire to HAVE a friend like Jonathan. Let me challenge us all today to BE a friend like Jonathan. I know I desire to be a friend as he. What a gorgeous example of how the Body of Christ should be.

Just Like Noah…

I’ve been studying the life of Noah in the Bible recently. Just this morning this is what I journaled about being a modern day Noah:

“Noah was a man who walked with God. Noah did something nobody understood and it saved lives. Be the Noah of your neighborhood.”

Noah was a Difference Maker who was willing to do what no one else was willing to do. He was willing to obey God and do the peculiar…the odd…the faithful obedience to believe in a GOD who moves in peculiar ways. I am devoted to my Heavenly Father with wreckless abandon. A kind of loyalty that will follow wherever he leads.

For about 10 yrs, at least, I can relate to Noah in my testimony of peculiar (to man) obedience. Okay, it is peculiar to me also…but I watch what he tells me in detail unfold faithfully. To make the point drive deeper in my heart, we have a really gorgeous family of Morning Doves in our yard. All day, as I trained clients and did yard work, the male dove literally kept me company. He remained close to me as though he was watching over me with Heaven’s Peace. When I was driving home from school with the boys I was telling them of it…and there he was. The male, perched on the high peek of my extremely steep roofline with a branch in his beak. Again, it reminded me of Noah and his glorious and mysterious Ark.

I want be the Noah of my neighborhood.

There is NOTHING as satisfying as a deep friendship with God. I adore the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Draw near to him…He wants friendship with you.

God can do whatever He wants, however He wants and He can use whomever He wishes. I believe he wants to use you. So if you are going through it, you may just be paving the way for others to have a smoother trip. He knew you were strong enough to go first. He needed someone who could blaze a trail into the “never been done before”. It could be your health journey, your education, job selection/career path or something else. It doesn’t matter what it looks like to others. If God has impacted you to move, then move. He will take care of the groves in the road and His Mighty plan will unfold! Triumphant! ~Nicole

No Fail Mindset

The only people who fail are those who quit. So if you don’t quit, you win. Win what? Well, that depends, but the prize is never about “beating someone” unless it’s an athletic event. Winning is about personal growth, discipline, expanding personal potential.

Winners know how to manage their complaints. They understand that negativity will sabotage your own ability to persevere. So, instead of recapping past bad experiences in fear of their reoccurrence, recap your miracles and declare the reoccurrence of the good! God means for you to win! So don’t quit! ~Nicole

Big Shoes

“Let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:18

If we are to fulfill our life’s purpose with passion and fervor we must “walk as Jesus did” (1 John 2:6). Those are some big shoes to fill! But here is what is so amazing about this Truth-everyone has their own unique purpose and path. When we slip our feet into our Daddy’s shoes-just like a child does their natural father’s-something supernatural begins to happen. He will custom form his shoes to shape the contour of our foot. It’s a perfect fit every time hand designed for you. Just like Cinderella’s glass slipper, it will only fit you!

Don’t be afraid. Step intrepidly into God’s plans for your life. You can step out in bold confidence because He is by your side making a way even in the crocked or dark places and your feet are shod with perfect Peace. You’ve got this! ~Nicole
