Extreme Fit

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:38 am by Broken & Brave

“…like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation.” 1 Peter 2:2

When a person decides they want to become healthier, change their eating, get more exercise, they begin to make the appropriate changes for the desired end result. If someone wants to lose a few pounds and maybe tone up, they must switch their diet to cleaner whole food choices, increase their protein and decrease their refined carbohydrates. But to be able to maintain this one cannot simply switch hardcore right away. Our bodies are a big chemistry experiment and if you start eating large quantities of protein when you traditionally haven’t had enough protein you will have some intestinal distress for sure! However, when you’ve made steady changes over time you gain momentum, you gain self control over foods, your body and it’s ability to digest “meat” becomes competent and you achieve results.

The same is true with our spiritual health, strength and vitality. A person who is new to the faith in God must be like a person just beginning a healthy lifestyle change. They do a “beginners workout”. They begin to have pure milk that is easy to digest so to speak. God leads them toward greater victories in Christ. He slowly begins to incorporate harder to digest spiritual truths and concepts that would compare to meat as an analogy. They do not do it overnight. It takes time, dedication and focused determination.

We are all at different places in our spiritual walk with God. From beginner, intermediate, advanced and extreme fit…to borrow some fitness industry terms. As a personal trainer I would never place a client who has never eaten healthy or exercised on the same routine I expect of someone who has trained and eaten clean for years. But I can meet them where they are at and I can help encourage them along and give them exactly what they need to achieve and become all they desire to be as their trainer.

God is the best trainer and “nutrition consultant” of all. Trust Him and put yourself on a steady diet for he has written the best health care book of all! ~Nicole

Kids with Grit

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:41 am by Broken & Brave

I have an eye to spot a Diamond in the rough.

Don’t you know that your children are diamonds in the rough? They can be. We cannot control outcomes, but we can do our part to ensure they turn out of noblest character, integrity; that they may become quality leaders for the next generation. Therefore, we must raise them and teach them how to discern, how to use critical thinking skills, how to problem solve, how to do for themselves, how to guard their hearts. If we do everything for them or hover over them as they grow it will only create a narcissistic, self serving person. The same result can occur with severe neglect.  It is not enough to love them, or spend time and money on them. We must invest.

Parenting is like a funnel. In the beginning the boundaries are small and tight, but as the child ages their boundaries begin to change and become wider, but still maintaining concrete absolutes. Kids need to know what to expect.

We are caregivers (early yrs.), then we are Coaches (adolescent yrs.), then we get to eat the fruit of friendship when they are grown. It’s critical for us parents to understand it’s not our job to be our kids friend when they are young. They aren’t going to always like us. But they will know that you love them when you implement healthy patterns of both love, encouragement and grace coupled with sound direction and absolutely clear expectations.

I dont have it perfect and I make mistakes. We all do. This is also why it’s imperative to avoid pride. Be willing to be transparent with your kids when you blow it. Own it. Tell them your sorry and then turn your own folly into a teachable moment on how to have better handled a situation. Your kids are resilient and love you. I tend to believe their respect for you will be even greater when you are willing to own your mistakes. It also breeds an environment for deep emotional intimacy. When we are prideful and don’t discuss the problems resentment insues.

Something I see sadly lacking in society is multiple generations of very wounded people who, as a result, have a low emotional IQ (EQ). People just don’t know how to be courteous or how to get along with others anymore. As a society, we seem to be offended by everyone and everything.

People with a higher EQ tend to have quality relationships and can foster healthy relationships with most people. They know how to get along and thrive with others. The more damaged a child is, the lower their EQ tends to be. It becomes very difficult to change this once the child becomes an adult. But all things are possible with Christ. Let’s be ahead of the game and raise great kids. Not so we can brag about how awesome our kids are, but so we can have competent and constructive leaders for the future. People who can think with clarity, make sound choices, navigate through difficulties and know how to continue under pressure. People who value others and are able to place themselves in the shoes of others– so to speak, the ability to empathize with the point of view of others or even understand the point of view of others. Perspective is critical.

Whatever the health of your relationship with your family, it’s never too late to cultivate a stronger unity. Redeem the time. Be Purposeful. Be Intentional. Make them a priority. Sacrifice of yourself for them, all the while never making them the nucleus of the family. They are a member and when each member is secure in their family position great families are fostered, bearing deep roots and live branches like shoots of an olive tree.

Hope this helps a few people. God’s been good to me in helping me raise my own children and He blessed me with two people who poured their all into my young life. I like to call them Mom and Dad. No parent is perfect, but family matters. Your family needs you and you need them. Time travels fast! Enjoy this journey while it lasts.

Jesus; All Access God

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:17 am by Broken & Brave

“Those who love deeply never grow old; they may die of old age, but they die young.” Sir Arthur Wing Pinero

People think many instantaneous thoughts when it comes to love, but Jesus’ was the greatest love story of them all.

I love my Advocare community. My curiousity was peaked about this little company in the 90’s. Didn’t know another soul who heard of it when we met it. My love for the products were immediate. When you’ve tried a lot of things and believe still…you eventual have something come across your path that is legit. What a blessing God brought to our life, health and home through this company that is on the rise, but not so tiny anymore.

We go to Success School in Texas. John McBride, being on the SAC (Sport Advisory Council) gives him backstage access. We’ve met and dined and gotten to know many celebrity type folks because of this. I didn’t join Advocare for backstage access, fame or glitz. But when you find something good, your in your niche, and God is in it with you, good things happen.

That’s how it is when you join on with Jesus. You have tried a lot of things, left unsatisfied or even disappointed, but still believe. But once you’ve tasted Jesus you know you’ve found something good.

Because of Jesus…we have an all access backstage pass to eternity! And that’s good. ~Nicole

Unfair or Foundational?

Posted in Devotional, true story tagged , , , , , , , , , , , at 6:07 am by Broken & Brave

The only people who fail are those who quit. Don’t quit!

Some people don’t have to work very hard and things come naturally to them while others work extremely hard and the results come with great difficulty. Have you ever wondered about this? I see this a lot in my competitions. Girls who don’t train very hard and don’t stick to their diet, yet they walk away with a trophy. But this concept applies to many areas of life. It could be a Valedictorian to rarely studied, the person who finds a job in a day while you hunt away. The list goes on.

Some may say it seems unfair, but don’t allow your heart, your mind nor your attitude to droop. For anything you deem important enough to put your heart to and it falls in line with the inspired Word of God, then God cares about it too and He is with you making way for you. Sometimes the Lord places purposes in our heart knowing the challenge it will bring. He will use it all to build stellar character to the pure of heart. So don’t quit. Never give up. You must be decided and possess absolute belief that the God who put you to it will see you through it brilliantly. What do you gain by quitting? You become like those work not at all and nothing comes to them. But when you work hard and discipline yourself the rewards received by far outweigh and title or trophy. It’s about becoming the best you can be and self worth and dignity. ~Nicole

“So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should.”

Wait for a Second…

“I Am is calling…you out of a dark and dusty wasteland.
I Am…is turning His gaze to you only the way a lover would do.
I Am…is fortified and preparing a place for you.
I Am…has tucked you deep into the chambers of his heart, where for many it is dark as night, but I Am has come to dispose your personal darkness with Oceans of Delight. Everyplace in your heart, your mind, your life that has remained dormant and quiet will now spring forth in abundant light. I Am is the God of the Second Chance.”

He is the God of the Second Chance. He is a God fully invested in your Future Grace. He is the God committed to helping you succeed. He is the God who is faithful to meet your every need. He is the God who cares and He is Faithful. Day in, day out, He is faithful to stand by your side, walking out the days of your life as though it were a rigid assignment of the Lord appointed to protect and lead. Like a valiant steed, carrying you over rubble and graveled terrain. He won’t allow any harm to come to your frame.

He is the God of the Second Chance and His chances are eternal and without limit. Everyday he washes away any painful memory of the past and gives you a second chance.

Embrace his chances today.
Life is lovely, let him live it with you.

Do you have any areas of your life you feel out of chances, like it’s just too late? Well, for God, this is merely the starting gate. His tender Mercies and Compassions never fail. He is for you with unlimited chances to adore you every day.

“The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness,” Psalm 18:28

“I will lead the blind by ways they have not known,
along unfamiliar paths I will guide them;
I will turn the darkness into light before them
and make the rough places smooth.
These are the things I will do;
I will not forsake them.”

Brave

JOY has a Name.
PEACE has a Name.
LOVE has a Name…
And all are encapsulated in a heart that is Brave.

You are Brave.

What does it mean to be brave?

The answer is yours to complete. The only requirements to meet are to dig deep and live out fully-paying attention to the details-the path God has charted for your life. To step out in faith-Despite any fear of making a mistake because you know you take God’s Grace and blessing with you. There is a Journey out there that is yours alone to do. Heavens got a Who’s Who and it includes you.

You are a Difference Maker.
Let’s go…the lives of others may only take shape after you step out in faith. ~Nicole

Best Yet…(don’t forget)

“I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.” Psalm 101:2

Everyday can be the best day of your life if your hearts mindset is right. Whether you have grand plans or daily chores, when you do it all for The Lord it can be amazing! How do you do it all for The Lord? A lot of that has to do with expectation.

If you crawl out of bed sour and grumpy every morning you are expecting sour grumpy mornings every night before you go to bed. Just because that’s how it’s been in the past doesn’t mean today can’t be a new day! God gave you this day and whatever you expect from it is generally what you will get. If you expect conflict and trouble, your attitude of heart just may be projecting conflict and trouble. If you are expecting a good result from tasks or obligations you may not want to perform, your attitude will be brighter in the midst of your work and this will be like a pleasing aroma attracting others around you.

Get up each day DECIDED that you will have a good day and circumstances and others are going your way! What we perceive and believe is usually what we receive. Change your outlook and watch how the flow of your day goes…Life is an EXCITING ADVENTURE! ~Nicole

Just. Plain. Great.

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:38 am by Broken & Brave

Have you ever stopped to really consider your own beliefs about what GOD thinks about you? I have no doubt you have already pondered what you think about yourself. Truly take a moment to consider this profound yet simple truth.

GOD THINKS YOU’RE GREAT.

That’s it. Not great with potential, though that’s true, too. Not great at something, though He is aware of your strengths and weaknesses. Just GREAT. So, if His thoughts toward you are great that means greatness dwells within you. So why do you spend so much time frowning on your negatives? God gives good gifts and gave the rest of us a gift in YOU. Time for you to believe it too! God said it, He meant it so that does it! His heart for you is BIG! ~Nicole

It may feel easier to draw back and recluse yourself in self preservation. But God’s drawing you out in His Perfect Love. His affection is over you. Transparency breeds intimacy and trust, but transparency is scary, it involves risk. I tell you that you are the Beloved of Heaven. There is no safer place to be yourself than in quiet prayers to an Almighty God. The more transparent we can be with God the more we can have healthy and worth while relationships with others. It’s like opening the ribbon from a gift to see something amazing inside. He unravels our discomforts and sets them aside and then focuses on the content of our heart…beauty purified by His Love. The best of you is still locked inside of you, but God wants to draw it out into full view for others to see, too. He believes in you! ~Nicole

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”

Soul Sustenance

Unleash Your Dreams and Bridle Your Fears…

Are you making disclaimers on life and possibilities? Are you prefacing your ideas or statements with a negative before the positive? “This is how it’s always been…”,
I’d like to, but…”, “I’d like to see _____, but I will be content with_______.”, “Its not my favorite, but you might like it.”, “I’d love to live_____, but where I’m at is ok.”, “This is just how I am.”

These are only a few examples of how you may be unintentionally sabotaging God’s Creative Design on your mind. We start off in life with endless dreams and possibilities and then we become champions at settling. We do it for a variety of reason. Some may include, fear of disappointment, painful past experiences, fear of failure, fear of what other people will react…does this sound at all like you? It can happen in any area of life. I see it in clients who have a goal weight loss, but struggle to believe it is possible so they give me what they will settle for-in that order. Or maybe they want to try an exercise, but don’t truly believe they are strong enough.

When I was younger I loved my home, but  had closet dreams of a nicer one. I didn’t dare unleash or speak these dreams until God began to pull my closet mentally apart at the seams. He literally dared me to desire more. God doesn’t want us greedy or proud-but He does want us to understand that we are royalty. We are Sons and Daughters of a King! He wants better for your life.

Dare to believe!

-Nicole
