Brave

Posted in Devotional tagged , , , , , , , , at 2:57 am by Broken & Brave

JOY has a Name.
PEACE has a Name.
LOVE has a Name…
And all are encapsulated in a heart that is Brave.

You are Brave.

What does it mean to be brave?

The answer is yours to complete. The only requirements to meet are to dig deep and live out fully-paying attention to the details-the path God has charted for your life. To step out in faith-Despite any fear of making a mistake because you know you take God’s Grace and blessing with you. There is a Journey out there that is yours alone to do. Heavens got a Who’s Who and it includes you.

You are a Difference Maker.
Let’s go…the lives of others may only take shape after you step out in faith. ~Nicole

It may feel easier to draw back and recluse yourself in self preservation. But God’s drawing you out in His Perfect Love. His affection is over you. Transparency breeds intimacy and trust, but transparency is scary, it involves risk. I tell you that you are the Beloved of Heaven. There is no safer place to be yourself than in quiet prayers to an Almighty God. The more transparent we can be with God the more we can have healthy and worth while relationships with others. It’s like opening the ribbon from a gift to see something amazing inside. He unravels our discomforts and sets them aside and then focuses on the content of our heart…beauty purified by His Love. The best of you is still locked inside of you, but God wants to draw it out into full view for others to see, too. He believes in you! ~Nicole

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”

Faith Can Flex

Posted in Devotional tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 8:00 am by Broken & Brave

You have tremendous muscle memory…not just in your physical frame, but also in the depths of your heart, your spirit.

You’ve maybe heard it said your faith is like a muscle. It must be stretched, pulled, contorted and bent before it can shape and mold into something you can believe in. But here’s something maybe you haven’t considered…

When you go through a trial and endure the rugged terrain of a wilderness experience…when your eyes have strained, but you have failed to see because the intensity of your trial too ominous…so dark. During these wee hours of heartbreak and pain is where your real strength is made and when you make it to the other side not only are you breathing, healthy, alive, but your faith has survived. Then, during seasons of comfort or even mild seasons of distress your faith remembers where’s it’s been, what it’s done, and how you’ve overcome, and you handle it all just a little more effortlessly. Your stoicism will give others who lack faith hope and create room for them to breath, gain relief and make it, too, just as valiantly.

You have tremendous muscle memory…not just in your physical frame, but also in the depths of your heart, your spirit.

Let’s Flex!!!😉

A Heart for Community

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 6:30 am by Broken & Brave

“For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you-that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.” Romans 1:11-12

God plants people in neighborhoods, houses (resident dwellings), careers, jobs, and communities. God has a heart for community. Therefore, He had this in mind when He wrote on the tablet of your heart the purpose for your life. He decided where and when He would plant you like a seed on this earth. He is a Sovereign God. What does that mean? It means there is nothing that escapes His eye for detail. There is no plan He forgot or neglected to make. He is ever mindful of the course of your life. You can take great Comfort and Confidence in this. I am hoping I communicate encouragement to you if you are in a job that stresses you severely, or maybe you don’t like your neighborhood or have a neighbor who is difficult to live near. God has planted you there- if only for a season. You have been chosen to be a light to that community, whatever it is. ~Nicole

Better Your Average

I don’t think there is a child on the planet who dreams of growing up to be average. But as we age life settles in and we begin to care more about what we see in our situations of life in the natural eyes and the eyes of vision and destiny become a bit foggy until eventually they are not functioning at all. We forget how to dream. We forget that we can do all things with Christ. We begin to accept the opinions of others and what they say is possible or achievable for our life. The voices in our heads can be anything from our family and friends to the bill collector who reminds you how much you are strapped financially.

How can you ever risk to take action steps towards God’s Promise? Then it happens…we become average. We settle. We accept status quo as our new norm. We stop growing, stop learning and stop being inspired. We work at jobs we don’t like to make money only. We forget to make a difference because we are desperate for something different in our own lives. After all, you won’t be able to pull other people into the boat of possibility if you are still in the water holding onto the side of the boat to keep from sinking. You need both hands free!

People do the same thing with their health and fitness. They can’t afford it. “Eating healthy is too expensive”, I can’t recall how many times I’ve been told that. Compared to what? Define expensive? Because deleterious health seems far more expensive to me! Or they are too busy or the slightest change in the schedule of their day creates a need to cancel some things out and the workout is always the first thing cancelled. There is a huge difference in mindset between the fit person and the average person. The fit person creates an opportunity for exercise, even if it isn’t conventional or a trip to the gym. They understand the importance of the consistent routine.

Stop settling for mediocre. Engage your mind, read books that stretch and grow you. Surround yourself with people who aren’t average, who haven’t stopped dreaming, who are healthy risk takers and possibility shakers…Difference Makers. These people will both inspire you and make you a bit uncomfortable all at the same time. That’s not bad! It means you’re out of your comfort zone and reaching into a new zone of possibility!

They say if you are the smartest person in the room then you are in the wrong room. (That’s why I married John, by the way, he’s so brainy I never have to leave the house!!! That was a joke…) 😂😜😉
As my husband always says–I call his little sayings, “Coachisms”:

“It’s a great day to get better.”

And he says it nearly every day.

Ultimately, growth is a gift from God. We only use small portions of our mind. They say there are approximately seven different types of intelligence. We couldn’t possibly be strong in every area of intellect. Or could we? The only way to find out is to explore the regions of our faith, our mind, our emotions that we haven’t been so strong in exploring before.

Champions have a different mindset. They work harder on themselves than anyone else, then they take the fruit of what they’ve learned and how they’ve grown and they sow seeds in the community and people around them. But be prepared…when you do things different, think different, and refuse to follow the mold of average, you will get a lot of confused and blank stares from people in a regular basis. You will be misunderstood. Some may avoid you because they don’t want to grow or be uncomfortable. That’s ok. Just smile and keep going on your way.

Rise up today.
Stretch yourself.
Be Intentional…
Be Sincere…
Be a seed planter…
Be a harvester….
Be a Cultivator of Imagination…
The Possibilities are endless.

Be a Champion.

There is a mark of Glory upon you…

Gods heart whispers, “I’ll be there, because I can’t imagine moving forward without you.” (Matt. 18:12-14)

Stop spending so much time worrying and living in fear. God is Sovereign. Ultimately, every problem you have is HIS problem. Have a ton of bills? Remind God they need to be paid. You do your part, He does the rest. Got a difficult boss? Thank God for them! It will change your attitude and even if your boss doesn’t change, your heart will. God wants to bless and protect you. So often us people try to do everything ourselves. He isn’t going anywhere. He is committed to you through thick and thin. You are not just one, you are HIS and you are like a priceless and precious gem.  I don’t think He’d have it any other way. By your side forever and unashamed. Where we lack fortitude, God has abundant meansures and rivers without end. Your courage has merit, but His Strength has no end. What a Wonderful Friend.

Youre going to make it.

“Mobbed”

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , , , , at 6:44 am by Broken & Brave

When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”

Mark 5:27-28

Have you ever had God touch your life in a real and dramatic way that left you forever changed? I have and I remind myself all the time how He has touched me and changed me and how completely different I am from the person I used to be.

The woman in the verse had a bleeding disorder. She had been bleeding for more than a decade. So much blood loss drains your energy leaving you lethargic and tired. Weary and worn no doubt. 12 years of doctors, discomfort, inconvenience and probably a lot of embarrassment and shame. Sounds like a recipe for depression, loneliness and despair. But this woman is a perfect example of what happens in a life when we don’t give up, when we persevere, keep faith and refuse to lose Hope. She knew by faith that if she could just touch His clothes she’d be made well. She was after an encounter with God and she pushed through a mob of people to get it.

What is the “mob” in your life right now? Are you crowded out by obstacles, setbacks, lack, personal, physical or emotional attack? Do problems surround you on every side? What is your attitude toward your obstacles? Take on the countenance as this woman. She never gave up. She believed Jesus was who she had heard He was and that she was a candidate for victorious living. She believed her bleeding days would be through.
This can be your belief, too.

Whatever is draining your energy, sapping your hope and stealing your dreams…
There is one who wore a garment that was so flawless- it had no seams. His healing power is Pristine and it is waiting for you. Push through! I know you’ve still got fight in you! You were made to overcome. There is Power in the Blood! ~Nicole

Need

Posted in Devotional, true story tagged , , , , , , , , , , , at 6:29 am by Broken & Brave

“And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.”
Acts 4:33-35

Wow. What a powerful scripture. It’s a small little passage tucked into a big story in the book of Acts. I feel I have seen these verses alive in my life and the life of my family. God inclined us to sell all we owned and designated how we would gift the profit and our possessions. Extreme, I know. But I believe He used my Extreme to exemplify a few things. First, there’s no way I could have done any of that without the Holy Spirit leading. There is no way my husband and I could have been in agreement to do anything like that without the Spirit unifying ours as we walked out the death of our flesh. But, here’s what else happened. We gave in excess, but we have had times when we have received in excess. Leading up to the selling of all our property God lead us through many very lean years that were the kind of lean that was completely out of our control. I do suggest to you He allowed it so He could use it to build our trust and faith and to see what kind of God we really believed in, Him or Mammon. During that season we received anonymous and outright tangible blessing from others. We learned to give and receive as God would lead. Just like this above scripture.

We have given away more cars than I can count, but we have received a few cars as well. We have given furniture and we have received furniture. For example, when we sold our home and gave all our furniture away, when we moved to our new home (four years later) it was much bigger gift than the one we sold. The Spirit of God told me prophetically not to rush out and buy any furniture, He would fill the house by Christmas. Just pray. We prayed for beds for my kids first. Within a few weeks a small home church lead by people we know heard our testimony and their entire church decided to buy us a gift for the house. They were all 100% in agreement after prayer that God wanted them to buy all of our kids beds! They had no idea we prayed for that first! He said to wait on Him in early September. Guess what happened, house fully furnished by Christmas!

Be sensitive to the Voice of God. Be willing to give when He leans into your soul. It won’t matter if you feel you have it, can afford it or not. He makes it all work out. When you follow His lead He provides for absolutely everything you could need to complete what has for you to do. He is always working for your good. And let’s face it, living by faith is very exciting if you learn to overcome your fear of sacrifice and pride of life. You will be blessed in ways that go beyond a fiscal spreadsheet or page. Your entire family and life will experience His River deep. Ask God today to help you learn how to take bigger steps of faith to trust Him with all your resources. What does He want you to give? He’s probably not going to ask you to sell all, but He will meet you where you are at and Bless you for the desire to be a blessing to others. ~Nicole

Inferno of Hope

Posted in Devotional, true story, Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , , at 6:25 am by Broken & Brave

Yesterday I walked into the performance facility on campus where my spouse is employed. It happened to be filled with a water polo club mid workout, my water polo playing son included in the mix . As I crossed the threshold I instantly detected the aroma of chlorine. The boys had come straight to weights from the pool. It put a little smile on my face because there have been other teams in there at times that put off a far different aroma than the smell of sanitization as I entered in.

I’m actually fairly sensitive to smells. I guess I have a strong sense of it. I can walk on a path and catch the flavor a flower exudes and it’s just enough to delight my heart and mood. I love noticing the little, subtle, mostly unnoticed details of life.

Our life puts off an Aroma.
How do we smell?

When we allow God to stroke our heart, heal its pain, fuel it’s worth it gives spark to the bones and Light to the eyes. Like a match that has been struck, it begins to kindle and bring back the innocence of childhood like Faith.

As we walk close to the flame, we experience its warm. As we abide in it, trust it, savor it, knowing we will be consumed by it, but never burned from it. We begin to put off a pleasing Aroma much the same way a scented candle would release a fragrant perfume.

It becomes evident, in this Glorious position of Grace, Peace and tranquility, that we becomes an Inferno of Hope that possesses power and passion- just like the intense heat of the flame- to help others cope all because we embraced Hope.

Today is yours…
flavor it with a Sweet Scent.

~Nicole

“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.” Ephesians 5:1-2
