Love In The Details

Posted in true story, Uncategorized tagged , , , , , at 5:51 am by Broken & Brave

I recall a time several years ago my Dad came over to work on an electrical issue that had come up. There he was, bucket of tools in hand, on my porch at 8:45AM.

My whole life my Dad has done things for me. I know it’s how he shows love. I mentioned in my post yesterday how when I was a young adult my Father would say, “Nicole, bring your car over and I will wash it for you.” What I knew he was really saying was,

“Nicole, I love you.”
Others might have seen a man with a bucket of gadgets on my porch that particular morning, but I saw a man with a bucket of love.

There are 5 love languages or 5 ways to communicate love to others. We speak the ways that are most meaningful to us: Acts of Service, Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Gift Giving and Physical Touch.
My Dad is a helper, so of course, he expresses love through service/helping. Mine is words of encouragement and affirmation, so that’s how I usually love first. But here’s what I know…people feel most loved when you speak the language of love THEY prefer. Some people need a hug or touch on the shoulder, some need time together most, you get the idea. Pay attention, someone may be reaching love out to you today in a way not easily discerned. As each of us grows in our ability to love, we become better at speaking ALL of the Love languages.

Be a blessing…you are loved.

Joy is Loves Measuring Stick

“Then you will look and be radiant, your heart will throb and swell with joy; the wealth on the seas will be brought to you, to you the riches of the nations will come.” Is.60:5

What does it mean to have joy? To love is to have one’s heart set afire with joy. Exuberant joy reaches through the narrow crevices of soul, entangling the senses and provoking the mind to delicate things…things that stir us…things that move us. Joy exudes out of us through the soul. In the words of Mother Theresa, “Joy is the net of love by which you can catch souls.”

Joy, I believe, is so different from happiness. Joy comes with the deep satisfaction of loving others through serving them. We can serve people in so many ways. Someone once told me that “love is in the details”. That resonates with me. The possibilities to love through the details are endless. How beautiful. Spend sometime today purposing your heart to love and serve God first, then sacrifice yourself to love others more and place yourself last. For truly, the least become greatest in the kingdom of God even when they don’t desire such a seat of honor. ~Nicole

Wait a Minute!

Posted in Devotional, true story, Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , , , at 6:52 am by Broken & Brave

Have you ever had to wait for something? Maybe you had to wait for someone? When I was a girl we went to church on Sunday. My Dad, being a very prompt and punctual fellow, would be ready well before my Mom. As she finished preparing herself for the morning my Father would sit in our living room and play records on the record player of various worship tunes. He would sit at the end of the couch and just softly sing.

Sometimes when we have to wait we become impatient or disinterested in what we were waiting for. We give up. We take a new road. But we can all learn from my Father who chose to wait patiently for the appointed time by singing a song of Worship and lifting his heart to Him.

God knows right where you are today. You may be facing a health crisis, financial crisis, waiting to hear about that job interview or just longing for a change in a dry season of life. Worship your way through. The King of Heaven has got you. ~Nicole

Vineyard of Hope

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser…As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.” John 15:1 & 9

Vineyard of Hope

We live in the heart of wine country. The soil in the region where I live is ripe for agricultural harvest. I absolutely love it.

I love how sometimes in the business of my day I am slowed down by a chicken or a tractor on the road trying to make its way to a nearby field. I’ve even encountered peacocks on my path. Our community is population dense, a fairly large city, but we are blessed to posses a country view.

One of my favorite times of day is when the evening sun begins to fade into shade and as I pull my car into the driveway countless cotton tail bunnies scurry to make way. On our walk to the house the kids and I are quiet as a mouse because we want to see as many bunnies in the yard as we can possibly see.

As we make our way, we find countless lizards, a quail family and teeny, tiny frogs hopping all about. These are the things that make my heart pound.

The rich soul of our region produces. The farmers till the soil, plant, tend, harvest a countless variety of different crops. People all over are fed from it! How wonderful is that?

We are personally surrounded by orchard after orchard of cherry trees, some walnut, and vine after vine of grape vineyards are twined.

Did you know?
Your heart is like a vineyard.

There is one who’s Love for you runs deep…
He wants to plant a vineyard in your heart. He holds the shaft and drives deep his plans and purposes for your life. He nurtures the roots and tends the shoots, cultivating a beautiful harvest of soul in your life.
He is willing to look after you and be attentive to you every single day.

His is a Vineyard of Hope.

Push Away…

The Push Away Diet Plan

“Turn to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning…For He is gracious and merciful. Slow to anger, and of great kindness.” Joel 2:12-13

There was a woman who receive a remarkable healing in her body. She was so exuberant with joy she wrote her Pastor to tell him the good news. She finished her letter by asking, “Do you think God would do anything about my being overweight?” The Pastor wrote her back and congratulated her on her miracle, and replied to her question regarding her weight , “This kind only goes out by fasting.”

Sometimes the best diet is the push away diet plan. You’ve got to push away from the table until your body weight becomes balanced and stable. But this applies to everything. You’ve got to push away from negative and deleterious thinking. You’ve got to push away from harboring pain of your past, bitterness and resentment. You have to push aside feelings of inadequacy or inability. You’re really quite wonderful and those things that weigh you down will hold you down if you allow it. Lighten the load! Fitness isn’t just for the body-it’s for the soul. You’ve got glow! So as you remember to be kind to others, be kind to yourself as well! -Nicole

Time Under Tension

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , at 6:56 am by Broken & Brave

It takes a long time to build muscle and change your shape. With consistent effort, good nutrition and faithfulness you begin to see some fruit of your efforts right away, but for long term wellness you’ve got to stick and stay. Your reward is in the constant and deliberate application of it. You’ve got to be patient.

The same is true for Soul Strength. You must nurture your own heart, feed it good stuff, always be expanding your mind and growing your soul. Be open to new ideas and opportunities as they unfold. Be mindful that not every good idea is God’s idea for your life just like not every fitness protocol is the same from person to person. Seek soul strength, find wisdom, pursue it diligently like you were a Bride preparing to fit her wedding dress– ironed and pressed.

Be patient with the process.

Everyday is a great day to get better. You’ve got this! ~Nicole

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” Mark 12:30

BE-You-ty Times Nine

Have a blessed day filled with
“Beauty Times Nine”

img_8141

When I wrote “Brilliance Times Nine” this past week the number nine was a reoccurring theme…it was so highlighted in my heart, but I did not know what it meant. I knew it was deeper Truth that would gloss past most everyone’s eyes but within there was a prize.

The number nine in scriptures represents God’s Completeness and the Fruit of the Spirit. So you are complete in him. His Glory is Complete within us. His abounding fruit cannot be undone, for it is a complete work, worked completely in and through each one of us.

So whatever is unfolding in your life, whatever is testing you, challenging you or happening with you…He is working His Completeness in you. What an honor to have the King of Heaven think so highly of you to want to showcase His Glory in you. Think about it–
Completely Amazing! 💜Nicole

“I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.” Isaiah 48:10
