What are you believing?

The future is inside of you. You must see it with your heart before you can believe it with you mind. Then you will walk it out in your life.

Arnold Schwarzenegger became legend as a body builder. Not only did he have an extraordinary work ethic, but he had extraordinary belief. At one competition he was up against Lou Furrigno, another famous top competitor. Lou told Arnold before the show that he looked good, but probably not good enough to win. Arnold replied he felt so confident of his win that he had already called his Mother in Austria to tell her he had won.

This is the mindset of a Champion!

It doesn’t matter what you are pursuing. It could be to encourage you child in 1st grade phonics.

To overcome, carry on and finish strong we each must have intense BELIEF in better things.

Be Decided! ~Nicole

Divine Design

Man gives titles, God gives mantles

Your identity is not in your title or job description or physical appearance. Your Identity is etched within a Cross…

My husband has a look alike. I suppose the other man would say he has a look alike as well. For maybe the past ten years my husband is chronically told he looks like a specific actor by the name Kevin Sorbo. When we first heard this we had no idea who the man was, despite the fact he had a hugely popular television show in the 90’s and maybe early 2K. It was so blatant, and still is, that my husband has been approached for his autograph in restaurants.

A few years ago Kevin was the speaker at the leadership prayer breakfast here in our home town. We usually go to this event, but for sure we weren’t going to miss this one! I was so curious to see for myself if they really did look a like in person up close! You can make anything or anyone appear a certain way from a distance. Up close, in your face interaction with people is where you see the real deal.

Sure enough, I was in shock almost, they look incredibly alike. You would think they were brothers so striking were the similarities. Apparently others thought so too because Kevin already knew all about my husband when we were introduced. He had been told of his twin in Stockton.

As we left the venue a woman approached my husband and thanked him for coming and what a great word he had just delivered to the audience! It was hysterical!

Here’s the thing…my husband likes Kevin Sorbo. My husband has a similar stature, build and look as Kevin Sorbo. But in no way shape or form does my husband want to be Kevin Sorbo. Who would ever want to be a knock off when you can be your own real thing? It makes me think of handbags for women.

I kind of laugh at designer knockoffs. What’s the point? Some of the value of an original is the quality in the craftsmanship. I actually own a Gucci handbag. I notice the difference in the depth of the quality over some other handbags I own. It was an expensive bag. My husband purchased it for me as a gift and I enjoyed that gift. But I have no interest in buying more knock off Gucci’s. Why? So others can be impressed? Who cares! If it takes a knock off to impress someone then they aren’t worth impressing. Gravitate to people who are genuinely impressed with your qualities. Be your own designer original. You may not be a celebrity like Kevin Sorbo, but Heaven celebrates you every day.

You’re an original…own it victoriously!

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27

(This photo gives you a feel for the true size of Kevin. He is clearly bigger than my husband and my husband is 6’2″ at 225 lbs. Both men are larger than life!)

Better Your Average

I don’t think there is a child on the planet who dreams of growing up to be average. But as we age life settles in and we begin to care more about what we see in our situations of life in the natural eyes and the eyes of vision and destiny become a bit foggy until eventually they are not functioning at all. We forget how to dream. We forget that we can do all things with Christ. We begin to accept the opinions of others and what they say is possible or achievable for our life. The voices in our heads can be anything from our family and friends to the bill collector who reminds you how much you are strapped financially.

How can you ever risk to take action steps towards God’s Promise? Then it happens…we become average. We settle. We accept status quo as our new norm. We stop growing, stop learning and stop being inspired. We work at jobs we don’t like to make money only. We forget to make a difference because we are desperate for something different in our own lives. After all, you won’t be able to pull other people into the boat of possibility if you are still in the water holding onto the side of the boat to keep from sinking. You need both hands free!

People do the same thing with their health and fitness. They can’t afford it. “Eating healthy is too expensive”, I can’t recall how many times I’ve been told that. Compared to what? Define expensive? Because deleterious health seems far more expensive to me! Or they are too busy or the slightest change in the schedule of their day creates a need to cancel some things out and the workout is always the first thing cancelled. There is a huge difference in mindset between the fit person and the average person. The fit person creates an opportunity for exercise, even if it isn’t conventional or a trip to the gym. They understand the importance of the consistent routine.

Stop settling for mediocre. Engage your mind, read books that stretch and grow you. Surround yourself with people who aren’t average, who haven’t stopped dreaming, who are healthy risk takers and possibility shakers…Difference Makers. These people will both inspire you and make you a bit uncomfortable all at the same time. That’s not bad! It means you’re out of your comfort zone and reaching into a new zone of possibility!

They say if you are the smartest person in the room then you are in the wrong room. (That’s why I married John, by the way, he’s so brainy I never have to leave the house!!! That was a joke…) πŸ˜‚πŸ˜œπŸ˜‰
As my husband always says–I call his little sayings, “Coachisms”:

“It’s a great day to get better.”

And he says it nearly every day.

Ultimately, growth is a gift from God. We only use small portions of our mind. They say there are approximately seven different types of intelligence. We couldn’t possibly be strong in every area of intellect. Or could we? The only way to find out is to explore the regions of our faith, our mind, our emotions that we haven’t been so strong in exploring before.

Champions have a different mindset. They work harder on themselves than anyone else, then they take the fruit of what they’ve learned and how they’ve grown and they sow seeds in the community and people around them. But be prepared…when you do things different, think different, and refuse to follow the mold of average, you will get a lot of confused and blank stares from people in a regular basis. You will be misunderstood. Some may avoid you because they don’t want to grow or be uncomfortable. That’s ok. Just smile and keep going on your way.

Rise up today.
Stretch yourself.
Be Intentional…
Be Sincere…
Be a seed planter…
Be a harvester….
Be a Cultivator of Imagination…
The Possibilities are endless.

Be a Champion.

There is a mark of Glory upon you…

Build Yourself Up

Posted in true story tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 9:39 am by Broken & Brave

“A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher.”
Luke 6:40

Years ago I was blessed to receive some in depth instruction and training from some premier Doctors in the field of nutrition and preventative medicine. I soaked in and learned enormously from these two men. I was able to obtain my training on audio and would play it over and over in my car. The more I learned and grew, the more I began to sound like these two doctors, full of the knowledge and wisdom they had generously passed on. It was a very cool experience and a rich blessing as I have had a passion and interest in health, wellness and nutrition most of my life. I studied nutrition in depth in college and now I find myself surrounded by people who are highly successful in a field I am passionate about. God put these people in my life to help me grow and learn more and pursue my God given dream to help people build a lasting legacy of longevity, disease free with high functioning mobility.

Whatever your life holds and whatever your journey entails, be mindful that God will give you exactly the instruction you need when you need it. If you are eager and ready He will bring the right resource to you to help you grow and learn what you need in order to achieve the dream, goal or desire. So don’t give up! Even if you make a lot of mistakes along the way, when you keep trying you will eventually deepen with understanding and get it right. Pay attention as God may bring people in your life who will add value, springing you forward and lifting you up. It is true, the only ones who fail are those who quit. Don’t quit! ~Nicole

Beautiful & Significant

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , at 8:01 am by Broken & Brave

You are beautiful.
You are important.
You are esteemed by many.
People are counting on you every day.
You are loved.
Absorb the love others offer you and allow it to sooth your heart like a salve. Now imagine the way you feel from the people who love and protect your heart best–now magnify that to the nth degree. That’s how much God loves you. No more negative self talk and looking over your shoulder thinking the world is against you, thinking you’ll fail, thinking the best is behind you.

You’re best is just around the bend! Because God knew “just good enough” would never do for you. He allowed Himself to become Beautifully Bent for you.

Be blessed, πŸ’œNicole

“Mobbed”

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , , , , at 6:44 am by Broken & Brave

When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”

Mark 5:27-28

Have you ever had God touch your life in a real and dramatic way that left you forever changed? I have and I remind myself all the time how He has touched me and changed me and how completely different I am from the person I used to be.

The woman in the verse had a bleeding disorder. She had been bleeding for more than a decade. So much blood loss drains your energy leaving you lethargic and tired. Weary and worn no doubt. 12 years of doctors, discomfort, inconvenience and probably a lot of embarrassment and shame. Sounds like a recipe for depression, loneliness and despair. But this woman is a perfect example of what happens in a life when we don’t give up, when we persevere, keep faith and refuse to lose Hope. She knew by faith that if she could just touch His clothes she’d be made well. She was after an encounter with God and she pushed through a mob of people to get it.

What is the “mob” in your life right now? Are you crowded out by obstacles, setbacks, lack, personal, physical or emotional attack? Do problems surround you on every side? What is your attitude toward your obstacles? Take on the countenance as this woman. She never gave up. She believed Jesus was who she had heard He was and that she was a candidate for victorious living. She believed her bleeding days would be through.
This can be your belief, too.

Whatever is draining your energy, sapping your hope and stealing your dreams…
There is one who wore a garment that was so flawless- it had no seams. His healing power is Pristine and it is waiting for you. Push through! I know you’ve still got fight in you! You were made to overcome. There is Power in the Blood! ~Nicole

Kids & Oars

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , , at 6:46 am by Broken & Brave

Parenting is a bit like an oar. Study the oar, it is a plank of wood that has been sanded and softened, yet is durable, resilient and strong. The sanding is all over, but the edges are where it is best shown the curves and soft edges of its grooming. This is so when the oar is pulled through the water it cuts right in smoothly instead of choppy or hard. It makes the experience more enjoyable and comfortable for all who transport in the boat or canoe.

As a parent the first five years are for structure and foundation. Without a solid foundation trouble will be inevitable. Have firm and strong rules in place. Be consistent with their application. Be hands on and involved as much as possible. The middle childhood years it’s important to still do as the first five but boundaries are instilled by now and in place so less time is devoted to discipline though it is still present. Teen years we become coaches. Kids know what is expected and are given more freedom to explore who they are and what makes them happy. Direct them toward the discovery of purpose, dreams and aspirations.

When we need to be authority in their lives we need to be clear. But the soft edges, like the oar, come with delivery of truth and how we administer it. Is it coming from a place of love or is it our own need to be in charge? One of the best things my own Mother taught me was to say yes as much as I can so when I had to say no they knew I meant it.
Finally, as parents we can’t play favorites. Favoritism will bread jealousy and competition in family. It will tear unity apart. You may have a personality that gels best with one kid more than another-but every child needs to be your favorite. Hope this helps someone. I’m not an expert, but I’ve definitely had lots of practice getting it right. Your kids love you! ~Nicole

Roar

Posted in Devotional, Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 6:54 am by Broken & Brave

We don’t always feel brave, even when conditions surrounding us demonstrate we are acting in bravery.

We don’t always feel like our Faith is Strong, even when we are boldly stepping out in Faith.

We don’t always feel like we are living or encouraging well, even when people around us seem to draw to the moisture we offer.

If this is you today or if it will be you in the future or has been you before, then this post is waiting for you at the door. Cross the Threshold and step in. Allow a Joyous Journey of Heart and Soul to begin. Flourish in your God Given Authority. He holds the Master Key to everything and it is yours.

Have you ever observed a Crescent Moon? The moon is beautiful…the way it captures the light of the sun during the thick of night. When you focus on it and study it you can see beyond the shadow to the whole of the moon.

This is how God is betrothed to you. He always sees past the shadow to the depth of your soul. He knows you are more than any feeling, thought or circumstance. He is faithful to guide your Path.

YOU have the brave heart as that of a lion; the absolute ROAR of the Father ignites in your soul. Rise up Champion! For you, Gods got MORE! Do you believe it? How much is an abundance anyway? ~Nicole
