Strong Heart

The only people who fail are those who quit. Don’t quit!

Some people don’t have to work very hard and things come naturally to them while others work extremely hard and the results come with great difficulty. Have you ever wondered about this? I see this a lot in my competitions. Girls who don’t train very hard and don’t stick to their diet, yet they walk away with a trophy. But this concept applies to many areas of life. It could be a Valedictorian who rarely studied, the person who finds a job in a day while you hunt away. The list goes on.

Some may say it seems unfair, but don’t allow your heart, your mind nor your attitude to droop. For anything you deem important enough to put your heart to and it falls in line with the inspired Word of God, then God cares about it too and He is with you making way for you. Sometimes the Lord places purposes in our heart knowing the challenge it will bring. He will use it all to build stellar character to the pure of heart. So don’t quit. Never give up. You must be decided and possess absolute belief that the God who put you to it will see you through it brilliantly. What do you gain by quitting? You become like those work not at all and nothing comes to them. But when you work hard and discipline yourself the rewards received by far outweigh any title or trophy. It’s about becoming the best you can be and self worth and dignity. ~Nicole

“So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should.”

Transformed

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , at 7:41 am by Broken & Brave

As a trainer there is nothing more inspiring than to watch your clients achieve their goals. To see the smile on their face and KNOW down deep that they did the work, but your guidance and effort helped put that smile on their face. It feels good to help people find their smile.

In the beginning, when a client first starts, they sometimes only have enough belief in their potential to get them to the trainer. This is where we step in to empower and encourage and guide. But they surprise themselves and like it and come back again. Sometimes if only for all the love and encouragement they receive, but they come. Now put that on repeat, and over time they blossom and bloom into the transformed butterfly I always knew they could.

Here is a universal truth…
Love Grows.

When we water others with love, it does something to the soul and people begin to grow.

Just as a trainer helps transform the exterior and empower the interior-because health and fitness stimulate and produce self confidence- so the love and Word of God does for the Soulish Man.

Train your soul today. Read a good inspirational book. Get into the Word of God, the Bible. Join a Bible Study group. Surround yourself with what you want to become and watch your Community become a Fit One.

Press On, Champion! The World deserves your smile. 🙂

Poise and Posture

Posted in true story tagged , , , , , , at 7:09 am by Broken & Brave

IMG_9666

I look at this photo and cringe a bit. It was from my second show ever (which was only two weeks after my first show). I had minimal clue how to pose. How I’m standing I look all blocky. If I would’ve opened up my hips, stretched my torso and pulled back my shoulders more it probably would have meant higher placement than what I got. But then I look at this and liken my posture to the heart. Do you ever block your heart in, standing “strong” but it becomes rigid? You may think you’re doing great, but what others see is closed, don’t approach me. But let me tell you ladies this, you have been created in the image of God. That makes you capable of reflecting his love, truth, strength, dignity, goodness, wisdom and Beauty. And beautiful you are. You don’t need a fake tan and a stage to sparkle bright! Whatever ailes you, own that night and use it as the backdrop to Canopy the Bright that you Shine! You are too gorgeous to hide that shine. ~Nicole✨

Inspired Life

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , , at 6:53 am by Broken & Brave

Everyone who knows me knows my passion for health, fitness and nutrition and their impact on quality of life. I know it was God who stirred this passion and purpose in me. I didn’t play a lot of sports growing up. I wasn’t on a bunch of teams. No cheesy photos of me in a uniform. I cheered throughout high school and swam one year on swim team to stay in shape. But this deep desire was in me to be well, eat well, do well. I had no outside influence for this. My family does not share my passion for health and fitness. Not a coach, mentor or teacher telling me of my potential. I was almost always picked last or next to last for everything. My drive was all God, all spoken internal. I was 13 years old and was already thinking about lifelong wellness and disease prevention. Only God can do that. What 13 year old thinks of such things on their own? I never had mentors to pull me under their wing. In fact, most of my entire life I had the opposite. I was told I didn’t measure up, I wasn’t good enough, smart enough or didn’t do it right. For a long time I believed it.

I love to sprint for cardiovascular fitness and to stay lean. Almost year round I will squeeze in a quick 10 minute sprint routine at the start of my day. Most days I now use the track at my kids school. The grounds keepers at the school have a little girl who is sometimes there waiting for her parents before being taken to school. My first encounters with her she was bashful and hid away when she saw me. But over time she popped herself out to be seen, but still, very far away. But little by little she would come watch me run.

One morning I got to the track to feast my eyes on a little 8 year old girl, who isn’t in the best of shape or weight, out on the track running her sprints.

Every sprint I’ve ever run, every bit of effort to encourage another I’ve ever given, was in that moment completely worth it. I had prayed just that morning if God would please use me that day to inspire another life higher. I specifically prayed for that little girl and that she would be inspired by me. God is so good, so faithful, so kind. I still pray for that little one, she talks my ear off now. I pray that she would find her drive and live her life to its fullest. Blessings for a glorious day. Your life an Inspired Asset of Heaven.

As we run, we pray and God makes the way.

Advocate

Posted in Inspirational tagged , , , , , , , , at 8:40 am by Broken & Brave

I am always advocating healthy eating, exercise and proper rest. In the fitness industry we are known for measuring biceps and waistlines, but as I hope you know, I advocate making healthy choices because you are valuable and the worth of your life is enormous.

But the worth of your soul is more.

We may measure our physiques in the fitness industry, but these things are not the measure of your worth. God is always measuring our hearts. When you know God’s created you with a big heart He will walk beside you, training you, encouraging you, speaking all the blessing your life brings to humanity as He stretches and strengthens and bends us a bit. He sees the amazing “future you” and He sees the “beautiful current you” all at the same time. He creates the way for it all to line up and fit just right. Beautiful Soul is a suit that is worn lovely by you and when God hems it in it’s a custom fit. He means to mend, bridge and build every area of lack so that your big heart can be filled to overflow with all the good of Heaven don’t you know?

I write for who will receive my pen. My heart is to ultimately see you happy, healthy and thriving with your beautiful life…I never want you to be merely surviving. You were created for so much more. God has planned for you so much more.

Internal Bling✨

Posted in Inspirational, true story tagged , , , , , , , , , , at 9:09 am by Broken & Brave

“But godliness with contentment is great gain.”

1 Timothy 6:6

Several of my devotions this a.m. contained threads of “contentment” laced throughout. It prompted an internal grin that flowed from my soul as I read each–for this is truly how I feel right now.

Yesterday I competed in the largest bodybuilding show I have ever competed in before. There are at least 326 athletes in this event so large it must span the coarse of four days and drew teams of athletes from all over the world. As I stood on the wings of the stage in prejudging yesterday I looked about (as I held my stage stance shoulders up, lats wide, torso twisted and legs charged…all in 5 inch heels on a slick floor of course)…I looked about the ladies who graced that stage with me. They were stunning. Beautiful form and symmetry, everything in place. Each had a personal style and grace no one could replace and I thought to myself. “Nicole, you are here.” It didn’t matter how I should finish, I was blessed.

Backstage everyone looks amazing, but once you get those bodies out under the stage lights you see fairly quickly who maybe shines the most bright. I knew the gal who posed right after me would win it. Her symmetry was on point for everything the judges are looking for. As she took her place by my side I whispered as I threw her a smile, “Your stunning”. She almost cried right there. Even the most beautiful of women need someone to believe in them and encourage them and love on them. Of course I love to do that! She did win and she won big–became overall winner and is now a Pro. But what I love is the humility of her soul. A sweet little lady from Hungary took home the gold.

As I reflected on my fourth place finish I felt joy in my soul. I am learning so much more about this sport and myself every time I take the stage. I know the source of my strength and worth isn’t in how high I place, but in knowing I’ve done my all and have pleased my Lord. I look around and see many of these women put their entire self worth in this thing…I’m praying for Divine Appointments to speak life and scout out the beauty and shine they bring to everyday life.

You may never aspire to compete in Figure, but you bring a shine to the world around you. There is a special kind of bling that only Jesus can bring and it’s locked like a pure gold medal embedded inside your chest. Let it rest within, shine within and draw others to the incredible light of Christ.

Because of Christ we’ve always got the win.

What are you believing?

The future is inside of you. You must see it with your heart before you can believe it with you mind. Then you will walk it out in your life.

Arnold Schwarzenegger became legend as a body builder. Not only did he have an extraordinary work ethic, but he had extraordinary belief. At one competition he was up against Lou Furrigno, another famous top competitor. Lou told Arnold before the show that he looked good, but probably not good enough to win. Arnold replied he felt so confident of his win that he had already called his Mother in Austria to tell her he had won.

This is the mindset of a Champion!

It doesn’t matter what you are pursuing. It could be to encourage you child in 1st grade phonics.

To overcome, carry on and finish strong we each must have intense BELIEF in better things.

Be Decided! ~Nicole

Divine Design

Man gives titles, God gives mantles

Your identity is not in your title or job description or physical appearance. Your Identity is etched within a Cross…

My husband has a look alike. I suppose the other man would say he has a look alike as well. For maybe the past ten years my husband is chronically told he looks like a specific actor by the name Kevin Sorbo. When we first heard this we had no idea who the man was, despite the fact he had a hugely popular television show in the 90’s and maybe early 2K. It was so blatant, and still is, that my husband has been approached for his autograph in restaurants.

A few years ago Kevin was the speaker at the leadership prayer breakfast here in our home town. We usually go to this event, but for sure we weren’t going to miss this one! I was so curious to see for myself if they really did look a like in person up close! You can make anything or anyone appear a certain way from a distance. Up close, in your face interaction with people is where you see the real deal.

Sure enough, I was in shock almost, they look incredibly alike. You would think they were brothers so striking were the similarities. Apparently others thought so too because Kevin already knew all about my husband when we were introduced. He had been told of his twin in Stockton.

As we left the venue a woman approached my husband and thanked him for coming and what a great word he had just delivered to the audience! It was hysterical!

Here’s the thing…my husband likes Kevin Sorbo. My husband has a similar stature, build and look as Kevin Sorbo. But in no way shape or form does my husband want to be Kevin Sorbo. Who would ever want to be a knock off when you can be your own real thing? It makes me think of handbags for women.

I kind of laugh at designer knockoffs. What’s the point? Some of the value of an original is the quality in the craftsmanship. I actually own a Gucci handbag. I notice the difference in the depth of the quality over some other handbags I own. It was an expensive bag. My husband purchased it for me as a gift and I enjoyed that gift. But I have no interest in buying more knock off Gucci’s. Why? So others can be impressed? Who cares! If it takes a knock off to impress someone then they aren’t worth impressing. Gravitate to people who are genuinely impressed with your qualities. Be your own designer original. You may not be a celebrity like Kevin Sorbo, but Heaven celebrates you every day.

You’re an original…own it victoriously!

~Nicole

Better Your Average

Posted in Devotional, true story tagged , , , , , , , , , , at 8:16 am by Broken & Brave

img_8251

I don’t think there is a child on the planet who dreams of growing up to be average. But as we age life settles in and we begin to care more about what we see in our situations of life in the natural eyes and the eyes of vision and destiny become a bit foggy until eventually they are not functioning at all. We forget how to dream. We forget that we can do all things with Christ. We begin to accept the opinions of others and what they say is possible or achievable for our life. The voices in our heads can be anything from our family and friends to the bill collector who reminds you how much you are strapped financially.

How can you ever risk to take action steps towards God’s Promise? Then it happens…we become average. We settle. We accept status quo as our new norm. We stop growing, stop learning and stop being inspired. We work at jobs we don’t like to make money only. We forget to make a difference because we are desperate for something different in our own lives. After all, you won’t be able to pull other people into the boat of possibility if you are still in the water holding onto the side of the boat to keep from sinking. You need both hands free!

People do the same thing with their health and fitness. They can’t afford it. “Eating healthy is too expensive”, I can’t recall how many times I’ve been told that. Compared to what? Define expensive? Because deleterious health seems far more expensive to me! Or they are too busy or the slightest change in the schedule of their day creates a need to cancel some things out and the workout is always the first thing cancelled. There is a huge difference in mindset between the fit person and the average person. The fit person creates an opportunity for exercise, even if it isn’t conventional or a trip to the gym. They understand the importance of the consistent routine.

Stop settling for mediocre. Engage your mind, read books that stretch and grow you. Surround yourself with people who aren’t average, who haven’t stopped dreaming, who are healthy risk takers and possibility shakers…Difference Makers. These people will both inspire you and make you a bit uncomfortable all at the same time. That’s not bad! It means you’re out of your comfort zone and reaching into a new zone of possibility!

They say if you are the smartest person in the room then you are in the wrong room. (That’s why I married John, by the way, he’s so brainy I never have to leave the house!!! That was a joke…) 😂😜😉
As my husband always says–I call his little sayings, “Coachisms”:

“It’s a great day to get better.”

And he says it nearly every day.

Ultimately, growth is a gift from God. We only use small portions of our mind. They say there are approximately seven different types of intelligence. We couldn’t possibly be strong in every area of intellect. Or could we? The only way to find out is to explore the regions of our faith, our mind, our emotions that we haven’t been so strong in exploring before.

Champions have a different mindset. They work harder on themselves than anyone else, then they take the fruit of what they’ve learned and how they’ve grown and they sow seeds in the community and people around them. But be prepared…when you do things different, think different, and refuse to follow the mold of average, you will get a lot of confused and blank stares from people in a regular basis. You will be misunderstood. Some may avoid you because they don’t want to grow or be uncomfortable. That’s ok. Just smile and keep going on your way.

Rise up today.
Stretch yourself.
Be Intentional…
Be Sincere…
Be a seed planter…
Be a harvester….
Be a Cultivator of Imagination…
The Possibilities are endless.

Be a Champion.

There is a mark of Glory upon you…

~Nicole

Build Yourself Up

Posted in true story tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 9:39 am by Broken & Brave

“A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher.”
Luke 6:40

Years ago I was blessed to receive some in depth instruction and training from some premier Doctors in the field of nutrition and preventative medicine. I soaked in and learned enormously from these two men. I was able to obtain my training on audio and would play it over and over in my car. The more I learned and grew, the more I began to sound like these two doctors, full of the knowledge and wisdom they had generously passed on. It was a very cool experience and a rich blessing as I have had a passion and interest in health, wellness and nutrition most of my life. I studied nutrition in depth in college and now I find myself surrounded by people who are highly successful in a field I am passionate about. God put these people in my life to help me grow and learn more and pursue my God given dream to help people build a lasting legacy of longevity, disease free with high functioning mobility.

IMG_9911

Whatever your life holds and whatever your journey entails, be mindful that God will give you exactly the instruction you need when you need it. If you are eager and ready He will bring the right resource to you to help you grow and learn what you need in order to achieve the dream, goal or desire. So don’t give up! Even if you make a lot of mistakes along the way, when you keep trying you will eventually deepen with understanding and get it right. Pay attention as God may bring people in your life who will add value, springing you forward and lifting you up. It is true, the only ones who fail are those who quit. Don’t quit! ~Nicole
