Story Teller📚

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , , , at 5:11 am by Broken & Brave

I don’t consider myself a blogger.

I am a writer.

I am a writer who happens to have a blog account and on this account I share a little glimpse of the pieces I write.

I was thinking about this and all the different ways people who write do so. Some write and their pen is a compilation of all they have researched. Some write songs or lyric of sorts.

I write stories.

I suppose if I wanted I could write a story like a novel. I’ve not done this except maybe a short little story in elementary school. I have on more than one occasion wondered how I’d be at this kind of story telling? Could I write a novel? Maybe someday I will, I think I’d enjoy the process, the progress, the challenge. As for now, I tell true stories. I tell my stories.

I recently wrote about a few experiences I’ve had in my life. I shared these pieces of work on my blog site. When you bog frequently you begin to accrue a following of “bloggers”. People who write or blog and follow other bloggers. So I began tagging and organizing my posts making it easier for people searching a specific topic to find what I’ve written. As a result my blog has really grown and I have a faithful following of people who seem to enjoy my stories, encouragement and writing. Some of these people I know, some I don’t.

Recently I had a few bloggers ping back my posts, the few I am mentioning now, with a link to all the scriptural support for the stories I have shared. It was kind of fascinating to read the in depth, precept by precept, recitation and application of the Word. I was a bit fascinated by the attention and time committed to the writing of this source. God has gifted people who can dig and research and create an organized and simplified search through the scriptures on any given topic.

As I mulled through these thoughts in my mind I contemplated how some write facts or just information. I write stories. My life is like a little playbook of all the miracles and wonders and stories of the Bible in a present day setting. The person who ping backed gave enormous scriptural application for my testimony.

Here’s the cool thing about a story…your story. It is YOURS. Nobody else’s. It cannot be taken from you. It cannot be refuted. It’s your story.

See, if we truly and fervently want to see people impacted by the Gospel we need to become champion story tellers. I’m not talking fairy tales and folklore. We don’t manufacture fiction.

I’m talking about testifying.

Here is a simple format:

This is where I was in life. This is what I saw. This is what I did and this is where I am now and where I see myself going.

Christians need to have the full version of their testimony, but they also need an elevator version. They need to be well equipped and trained up in how to share their story with others. I think if more Christians focused on sharing their story, they wouldn’t feel so timid about sharing their faith. Because they are simply sharing their story. It releases the pressure of “am I witnessing correctly?” or the recipient, “are you proselytizing me?”.

Everybody loves a good story.

Everybody loves to hear something encouraging that has happened. It secretly inspires and encourages others, even if they never tell you. I guarantee they walk away with a piece of gratitude for the deeper level of Peace your story released in their heart.

Your life is a story, your story. Share it boldly. Be willing to do bold and risky things. It builds your faith, sharpens your trust in God and gives you some pretty amazing stories that are exciting and captivating for others to hear.

People want to know God is real and that He can do all the cool miracles, Signs and Wonders the Bible espouses He can do. My life alone is living evidence He is, He can, and He does!

What is your story?
(I love feedback by the way!)

Make it an awesome day, writing your story with Him! You have been earmarked, like a page in a favorite book, for Glory!

What’s In A Name?

When I first opened a Facebook account I included my maiden name so people I knew growing up, before marriage, could find me. After a long while I extracted my maiden name and left my married name only. Enough people had found me that I knew by mutual friendships online people could figure out who I was without confusion on my Identity.

Have you ever had someone mess up your name? My first name is easy to pronounce and remember, but spelling it, you’d be surprised with how many people try to put an “h” in my name making it, “Nichole”. My daughters name is easy, but long-Alexandra-so all her life people call her Alexandria…no “i”, please. My maiden name was a mouthful of vowels so it was always being mispronounced. Forget about unique names with peculiar spellings!

But there is one who knows your name. He knows you through and through for he tattooed every attribute of your Identity in you. He burned it with in using His Signet ring…

God has marked you as His.
He won’t get your name wrong.

Whatever you face today, you can greet the day with a smile on your face because He’s got you and you belong. ~Nicole

Door Knobs

Posted in Devotional, true story, Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , , at 7:11 am by Broken & Brave

When I was a young girl my Grandparents lived in the cutest little house in San Pedro, CA. It’s a town near the port of Los Angeles. My Mom grew up in that house. There were many little charms about this place that hold memories for me. I could write a lot about it…

But right now my mind is on one particular thing. It was a door knob. This house was so petite it had a small living/family room, a tiny, yet still adorable kitchen, three bedrooms and one little bath located for all in the hall. The hall had great golden chimes on the wall, an old fashion door bell that was fully functioning. Awww, but the knob on that door to bathroom was glass. It looked like a giant diamond and in my mind I imagined it was. I’d put my fingers around it pretending it to be the hugest ring I’d ever seen. This is only one of probably a thousand charming little memories in my heart of this place. What a great memeory. I hadn’t thought of it in years until this morning I came across a note I wrote a while back and I instantly recalled It.

A writer is always writing. I have notes, memos, scratches everywhere. Ideas…many never used until God needs it and then I come across it and new inspiration attends it.

I found it to be a unique piece of writing, just a small fraction of a note, because just last night I heard my Pastor speak of the disciples and how they locked themselves inside a room for fear of persecution after the death of Christ…I wonder if they had door knobs?

Anything in history that God has used greatly He allowed it to walk through a crucifixion of sorts. There is a death to it before God will resurrect and bless it to its fullest measure of promise. He did it with the Lord first. He has done it with individual people, ministries, and  even businesses He intends to use mightily.

Nothing is shielded from the smelting pot of the Almighty.

He intends to produce a pot of gold worthy for a prince. Worthy to be offered to the King of kings.

God can make a way where there seems to be none. I frequently say, “God has a million ideas on how to remedy any given situation…I only need one.” When you’ve done all you can, and you can do no more, you must be still…its no longer up to you.

There is One who is a door opener. We each have a job to do. A purpose to fulfill. He can make a way, but we must do our part. There is a time to move. There is a time to be still. Where are you?

Whatever your course, your disposition, your countenance it is so important to be a yielded vessel to the Almighty. There is no room for the proud heart. For pride is mankinds ultimate demise. Pride demands its own way while Love pulls up and chair and says I’m with you to stay. When we yield to God’s plans we aren’t worried. We may feel stress and pressures of life, but we know God’s got us and all is alright. Then, in His perfect time the right doors open and the wrong ones shut. It’s so important to have your mind right. Be at Peace with God’s plans and allowances. Take your thoughts captive and call them into obedience to Christ. You will never have to repent for obedience. Search your heart and ask God to expose and extinguish any thinking that is false. A clear sharp mind that is strong-hold free. This all by itself is one of life’s greatest victories.

Do these things and watch yourself step Valiantly into your Destiny.

The Banner over you is Love and the Lord has covered all of your being in His. There will be no portion of you left out. He has you completely covered. ~Nicole

I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage.”

A Good Kind of Lean

Posted in true story, Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , at 6:53 am by Broken & Brave

In bodybuilding when someone enters a competition they must begin a regimen of strict diet and calculated calories in order to get very lean (low body fat) so that when they step on the stage the lights will grab and shadow all the lines, contours, definition of muscle on that physical frame. A bodybuilder cannot remain that lean, it wouldn’t be healthy or obtainable for a long length of time, but for that one appointed day, it’s radiant.

Just like in bodybuilding, sometimes life needs to get lean so God can show off and get Glory for how strong He helped us become. We don’t feel or perceive the fruit of discipline, obedience and suffering while we are in it…but when the load is lifted and our appointed time arrives…God shines a heavenly spotlight on that strength of His in you and it gloriously reflects His Light. YOU are His Champion!
Don’t give up! ~Nicole

You Are Enough

Change on big scales will always start with something small….yourself.

Though you are created, built, wired to be BIG and GREAT, on the scale of eternity we are but small. Most feel too small for their choices to make a difference or lasting impact. But this is not true. It all starts with what you do on the inside of who you are. It starts in the mirror.

I don’t consider myself a great writer. I don’t have mastery knowledge of the English language or the literary works of humanity. I haven’t published a New York Times Best Seller (yet😏).
Let me tell you what I do have…

When I was young I could write, but I didn’t know I could write. The pen seemed to flow readily for me and I received attention from one college professor and peers in that one class where we had to write and review each other’s writing. I guess that’s all it took to encourage me. I didn’t take that class until the spring quarter of my senior year of college. Talk about the 11th hour! Prior to that I was aware that anytime I could write and assignment/paper or could write the answers on the test (versus scantron multiple choice) I did well. This is about as much confidence as I had in this regard.  I was still fairly oblivious that I could write. Why? I didn’t know it came easily to me, I had nothing to compare to.

I had no self confidence. I struggled with self confidence my entire life. I was quiet, meek and unsure. I was afraid to try because I felt I did everything wrong or not well enough. I feared failure. I also feared attention, of any kind, positive or negative.

Until God stepped in and changed all of that.

I still don’t have a lot of confidence in Nicole…but I do have tremendous confidence in God and how He feels about me. God Confidence made the difference-it created His strength and boldness inside of me.

I know that greater than any combination of words to flow from my heart is His Heavenly Kiss on the tip of the ink as I scratch and make a mark. He takes what I write and uses it to prick the hearts of men/women.

Self confidence relies on “self”, but God confidence is all confidence in God and the belief that if you do what He asks you to do and go where He asks you to go and say what He asks you to say, He is there with you making his way manifest. God confidence.

What is it that you must do? What edifies you heart and soul and flows from within and makes you feel exuberant and energized like a kid? Whatever God has called you to do, you can do it because God does it with you. All you must do is believe how He feels and thinks about you and then take the steps to follow through. Engage yourself to your own destiny! Great is His Faithfulness. ~Nicole
