Suit Up!

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , at 6:38 am by Broken & Brave

People work, strive, plan, creating and attempting to create something every human soul craves…security.
We put money aside for retirement. We save. We budget and bargain shop stretching our dollars as far as they will go. We buy insurance for every imaginable detail of life.

But as long as you live you will need spiritual security. You will need your armor. Life is full of the unexpected. We don’t live expecting bad things or troubles to come, but we know we live in an imperfect world. We know better than to fantasize about a pseudo-eutopia. When we place our security in the right place, the correct Source, we know we are protected.

Wait for the Lord, behave honorably, never lose hope, maintain courage. To fear is to doubt God. Trust Him. Steadily offer your heart, mind, body, soul to the true and secure anchor for it all. Bonafide child of God. What are you so worried for anyway? Never give up! This is what it means to truly live by faith. You possess past grace, present grace and there is future grace for you as well. Grace is not just God’s favor and protection, it is also him causing good things to happen for you. He brings the blessings to you. So suit up soldier and relax in his Grace! He’s got you. ~Nicole

Rejuvenated

Why be content to run?

Spread your wings, Eagle, and fly!

Many years ago I was hiking with my husband on a high trail that overlooked the Connecticut River. As we hiked we received the extraordinary and rare opportunity to witness an eagle leave her nest, just at our feet, on the side of the mountain. She spread her wings and soared over the valley below. It was spectacular to see an eagle so close, but to actually see the span of her wing from above her, not beneath. I recognized in the moment what a gift it was and I stopped to drink it in.

After having a very wet winter this year, the summer has been bright and sunny and hot! There is something magnificent about the sun’s rays…they heal.

Did you know a wounded eagle will perch himself on the highest rock he can find and bake himself in the sun to cure what ails him?

Oh, how we can learn from the eagle! The Rays of God warm the heart, heal our wounds and cure our disease. But we must bask ourselves in the Radiance of His Glory. This will require getting closer to Him. Climbing higher to meet him. Not climbing like Corporate America, but by taking the “high road” leaving our comfort zone and ordinary behind. Get uncomfortable, stretch your limits and climb! There are Heavenly Rays waiting for you!

If God can do whatever He wants and has no limits, why wouldn’t He do big, limitless things for you?

~Nicole

“Have you not known? Have you not heard?…The Creator…neither faints or wearies. He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength…But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They will mount up on wings like eagles…”

Roar

Posted in Devotional, Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 6:54 am by Broken & Brave

We don’t always feel brave, even when conditions surrounding us demonstrate we are acting in bravery.

We don’t always feel like our Faith is Strong, even when we are boldly stepping out in Faith.

We don’t always feel like we are living or encouraging well, even when people around us seem to draw to the moisture we offer.

If this is you today or if it will be you in the future or has been you before, then this post is waiting for you at the door. Cross the Threshold and step in. Allow a Joyous Journey of Heart and Soul to begin. Flourish in your God Given Authority. He holds the Master Key to everything and it is yours.

Have you ever observed a Crescent Moon? The moon is beautiful…the way it captures the light of the sun during the thick of night. When you focus on it and study it you can see beyond the shadow to the whole of the moon.

This is how God is betrothed to you. He always sees past the shadow to the depth of your soul. He knows you are more than any feeling, thought or circumstance. He is faithful to guide your Path.

YOU have the brave heart as that of a lion; the absolute ROAR of the Father ignites in your soul. Rise up Champion! For you, Gods got MORE! Do you believe it? How much is an abundance anyway? ~Nicole

Soul Flow

Posted in Devotional, Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , at 7:17 am by Broken & Brave

“How blessed is the one whom You choose and bring near to You
To dwell in Your courts.
We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house,
Your holy temple.” Psalm 65:4

You are exceptional.
God knew why he picked you all along. You have a style and way all your own. You are needed, right here, right now. You have much to offer. You are loved, cherished and greatly esteemed. But God knew all of this when He created you.

So, cheers to you today! Be a wave of intentional blessing. Let everything you do, pursue, achieve, be done without a hint of murmuring…

Let it flow from the soul.

You are an inspiration of grace, you are luminous with hope and those who embrace the atmosphere around you are infused as well by vehicle of your heart and soul, mind and spirit. Believe it! ~Nicole

The Wonder of Woman

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , , at 10:51 pm by Broken & Brave

“She stretches out her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.”
Proverbs 31:19

In the Book of Proverbs 31 we find the blue print for God’s kind of Wonder Woman. The woman of strength God is after is not only unafraid to get dirt under her fingernails and get busy with her work, she is resourceful. In modern times women don’t use a spindle or distaff. We don’t spin our own wool into garments. But we are all weavers. We are hemming and sewing and capable of creating panels that attach each area of life, each duty, and each relationship to each other. We hold things together and if we do it right, we make everything around us better because we added value, luster and created a Shine.

We live in a day and age where the modern day heroine is considered to be “boss” or more poplar right now “badass”. Women are incredibly unique. We possess so many attributes of resilience and strength. I applaud the tenacious female who works hard, isn’t afraid of the struggle and possesses a deep passion and grit to get after it, whatever her “it” is. But let us not forget some of our greatest virtues. We possess incredible softness and femininity. There is true strength in gentleness. We possess the roar of the lioness and we must use our roar to applaud the victories and champion the hopes, dreams and aspirations of others. We hem people together, inspiring them to live, love and work together as a unified community. We encourage. We nurture. Then we do it all without gloating. We know the true source of our strength and our hope. We create. We conquer-both our fears and our goals. We are the serene voice of empowerment to men, giving them the supplemental Strength they need to believe they can do anything.

There is something lovely, strong, yet gentle about God’s woman of honor. It is our honor, ladies, to pursue her daily.

Champion of Virtue…
I believe in you.

You Are Enough

Change on big scales will always start with something small….yourself.

Though you are created, built, wired to be BIG and GREAT, on the scale of eternity we are but small. Most feel too small for their choices to make a difference or lasting impact. But this is not true. It all starts with what you do on the inside of who you are. It starts in the mirror.

I don’t consider myself a great writer. I don’t have mastery knowledge of the English language or the literary works of humanity. I haven’t published a New York Times Best Seller (yet😏).
Let me tell you what I do have…

When I was young I could write, but I didn’t know I could write. The pen seemed to flow readily for me and I received attention from one college professor and peers in that one class where we had to write and review each other’s writing. I guess that’s all it took to encourage me. I didn’t take that class until the spring quarter of my senior year of college. Talk about the 11th hour! Prior to that I was aware that anytime I could write and assignment/paper or could write the answers on the test (versus scantron multiple choice) I did well. This is about as much confidence as I had in this regard.  I was still fairly oblivious that I could write. Why? I didn’t know it came easily to me, I had nothing to compare to.

I had no self confidence. I struggled with self confidence my entire life. I was quiet, meek and unsure. I was afraid to try because I felt I did everything wrong or not well enough. I feared failure. I also feared attention, of any kind, positive or negative.

Until God stepped in and changed all of that.

I still don’t have a lot of confidence in Nicole…but I do have tremendous confidence in God and how He feels about me. God Confidence made the difference-it created His strength and boldness inside of me.

I know that greater than any combination of words to flow from my heart is His Heavenly Kiss on the tip of the ink as I scratch and make a mark. He takes what I write and uses it to prick the hearts of men/women.

Self confidence relies on “self”, but God confidence is all confidence in God and the belief that if you do what He asks you to do and go where He asks you to go and say what He asks you to say, He is there with you making his way manifest. God confidence.

What is it that you must do? What edifies you heart and soul and flows from within and makes you feel exuberant and energized like a kid? Whatever God has called you to do, you can do it because God does it with you. All you must do is believe how He feels and thinks about you and then take the steps to follow through. Engage yourself to your own destiny! Great is His Faithfulness. ~Nicole

Repairer of the Broken

Posted in true story tagged , , , at 6:48 am by Broken & Brave

“Those from among you Shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In.”

Isaiah 58:12

When I was married I inherited a home my husband already owned and I also inherited a dog- all in addition to gaining a husband.

I’m not really much of a dog person or pet person for that matter, but this dog was a true sweetheart. She was a Rottweiler and had been the product of divorce. Her name was Baby Grace and I look back now and see how instrumental and prophetic this dog would be in the unfolding of God’s design on my life to grow to deep levels of Grace, but at that time my faith was still like a baby.

img_8533

Neither owner wanted to keep her and so she found her way into our home. This dog turned out to be a real gift from God in my life. She was very calm and loyal as can be. She was gentle and protective. I felt safe when she was around for my husband was away for work most of the time. My husband used to travel a lot for business and spent ridiculously long hours at the office. I was home alone a lot. So it didn’t take long for me and this pooch to bond.

She had been abused, I could tell. She would pull back a bit when you’d reach your hand to touch her or pet her. She would not let you hug her at all. She did not snuggle.

She must have been struck before.

Even though we had never been rough with her at all she had the imprint from previous relationships. So I learned to reach out slowly and not suddenly. I learned to use my voice to soften her disposition. Over time she healed and she trusted completely. She became a 110 pound lap dog!

Everything I did for my pet is true for humans as well. Our tone of voice and physical countenance, our facial expression, can make a huge difference in how people receive us. How you speak to people, your tone of voice can lift and salve a soul or it can cut like a punch to the gut. Some people may not hit you with their fist, but they hit you with their tongue. The damage is the same or I dare say worse when it happens with the tongue. For verbal abuse causes damage that can’t be seen with the eye, but it deeply damages the soul. Verbal abuse can cause people to respond to even the smallest criticism the same way my dog responded to my touch when I first got her.

Do you know anyone who fits this description? Do they recoil even when you aren’t trying to hurt them?
Be patient and long suffering with them. A wounded person is a tender person who desperately needs love.

Are you this person? You have deep wounds of soul that grip you and hold you? Do you have an abusive person in your life? You are not alone. Verbal abuse is a silent killer of hearts I think. There are people all around who suffer and hold it in and no one knows what they endure.

Do you feel stuck in a place of abuse or in an abusive relationship? Begin to pray for God to bring open doors of healing for you. There are people and resources available, but most times there is intense fear in a place of abuse. If this is you, pray for God to bring open doors to you. He will guide your path and protect you.

Whether this scenario has merit in your life or not, be mindful of your words, your countenance and your voice. Our words can hurt or heal, nurture and care or damage beyond repair. But God cares and can heal any damage. He doesn’t want to leave anyone there in a place of abuse.

He is the Restorer of streets with no dwelling and Repairer of broken walls. He can cause a fountain to birth in a parched land, he can heal the inner man. -Nicole

Time Under Tension

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , at 6:56 am by Broken & Brave

It takes a long time to build muscle and change your shape. With consistent effort, good nutrition and faithfulness you begin to see some fruit of your efforts right away, but for long term wellness you’ve got to stick and stay. Your reward is in the constant and deliberate application of it. You’ve got to be patient.

The same is true for Soul Strength. You must nurture your own heart, feed it good stuff, always be expanding your mind and growing your soul. Be open to new ideas and opportunities as they unfold. Be mindful that not every good idea is God’s idea for your life just like not every fitness protocol is the same from person to person. Seek soul strength, find wisdom, pursue it diligently like you were a Bride preparing to fit her wedding dress– ironed and pressed.

Be patient with the process.

Everyday is a great day to get better. You’ve got this! ~Nicole
