Level Up!

Crowded Out To Level Up!

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,“ Hebrews 12:1

Have you ever done any running? Ever entered a race? I’m not a runner per se. I go for runs and get exercise by running—but I am not a runner. My oldest son is a runner. I ran with him once. I loved it, but also felt bad for my son at the same time. He was kind and gentle as always, but I could see he had to hold back so I could keep up. Even his slowing down for me was a greater cadence than my pace was used to. Running with him really worked me out and challenged me to level up. If this wasn’t a challenge enough, he also took me on a different path that was a good 1.5 miles longer than the 2.25 path I was used to. He pushed me…in the best of ways.

Our run was probably his warm up.

Sometimes deleterious things happen to us that push us down, push us back and crowd us out. Perhaps a lot of people can relate with that, especially right now given the current events of the world.

I have a meek and not so competitive personality so I have tremendous experience with being crowded out and pushed back my entire life. But something happened in me. God saw my heart and what was happening to me and He used it. He used it to stoke a fire in me and challenge me to fight for my place in history. God knows my heart after all. He knows I could care less about glam and spotlights and my name in lights. He knows how I please easily and don’t ask for much. So He polished a crown and set it aside for me. He surrounded me with a great cloud of witnesses, too. They cheer me on and they cheer for you. So pick yourself up. Life has maybe knocked you a few blows. The world owes us nothing, but God owns everything and He sees your strength and wants you to rise up, persevere, and run the race to win!

Level up and let yesterday’s best become tomorrow warm up!  It’s ok to compete for your space in this race called life. God will surround you with people who love you, celebrate you and are happy to see you win at life. Smile big and let’s get after it.

Your best is yet to come!

Interrupted Life

Posted in health and wellness, Inspirational, true story tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 7:43 am by Broken & Brave

I’m a trainer. Trainers love fitness. Trainers love weights, and movement, and all things physical fitness. I love my gym. I am what they would call a bit of a gym rat. The gym has been home for nearly as long as I can remember. I have been attracted to physical fitness, healthy eating and muscle since my very early adolescence.

I have goals. I have routine, just like everyone else pursuing fitness. Just like everyone else, this whole COVID-19 thing interrupted those goals. It interrupted my routine— Interrupted life.

If there is anything God has taught me or trained me in, its how to flow with interruption. The last thing to do is give up! So as far as my fitness routine goes, it looks different right now and maybe that is not a bad thing? The weather has been gorgeous so I’m outdoors a lot (which always makes me happy). But I’m doing different workout routines. I’m focusing more on overall maintenance and fitness. I’m using weights I have at home, but I’m also using a lot of functional movement tools. I’m using body weight exercises. I’m running more. Guess what…I’m kind of sore! As a trainer, I know the change up is good and will also help me reach some fitness goals!

In working with clients on fitness and nutrition I see patterns over the years. People may start strong and be full of zeal and ambition. They see some results which only validates their efforts and keeps them going. But then something will happen. Some sort of interruption in their routine. The interruption may be work, their schedule of their children, etc. Whatever it is—“the circle of life” steals their thunder and all that consistency and results gained goes under. They don’t get back their mojo. Why? Because they didn’t have a solid enough foundation. It’s like a tree that grows, yet has shallow roots. The storms pull it up from the soil. But those fit minded people who persist despite the resistance have deep roots that hold them steady toward their goals and they maintain the fit lifestyle.

“She is energetic and strong,
a hard worker.“ Proverbs 31:17

How can we apply workout consistency and routine to our faith? Has Coronavirus  interrupted your faith mojo? Are you finding it difficult to trust God in a way you’re not used to having to trust Him? Don’t let this sidebar become center focus of your spiritual fitness litmus. Don’t fail the fitness test!

The truly fit minded persist without exception. Let the same be said for our trust and faith and obedience to God!

 He… Has…Got this!
And He’s got you, too!
Flex yourself happy today and hold your soul strong! You can handle the weight because God’s been your spotter all along!
If no one else tells you today…
You are beautiful.
You are radiant.
Your smile is inviting and contagious. So good ahead and laugh. Allow the twinkle in your eye to magnify and stoke the heart and hopes of all you hold dear. 2020 will still be a stellar year! Get excited!

2020 can still be a magnificent year! Get excited!

“She is clothed with strength and dignity,
and she laughs without fear of the future.
26When she speaks, her words are wise,
and she gives instructions with kindness.
27She carefully watches everything in her household
and suffers nothing from laziness.”
Proverbs 31:25-27

Stolen Goods

Posted in Inspirational tagged , , , , , , , , , , at 7:43 pm by Broken & Brave

Have you ever had someone take something that was yours? It’s hard isn’t it? We feel violated and robbed of blessing. It feels a bit dirty even. Sometimes people break in and steal our property. And sometimes people steal our joy, our peace or our work. But honestly, we can find encouragement in the Word.

Turning the other cheek is hard.

The theft feels like a slap on the face, but God wants us to turn and offer up the other side as well?

Well—here’s my encouragement and reminder to anyone who feels any form of loss or violation…

Solomon, in all his splendor craved wisdom more than anything. God delighted in his desire and gave him wisdom and then added all the things the common man would have asked God for in the first place (fame, fortune, prestige, title). And with that wisdom he made a decision for two women fighting over a baby.

So when you feel violated or robbed or treated unfairly, remember—

The real Mother will always let the baby live.

Words to live by that add practical wisdom to almost any area of life. Hold tight. Your destiny didn’t need those cracker crumbs anyway!

What’s Your Type?

Posted in Devotional, health and wellness tagged , , , , , at 6:20 am by Broken & Brave

Just breathe. Just relax. Rest. Don’t you know proper rest is essential for proper recovery and immune health? All statements you may have heard before.

Our Parasympathetic Nervous System is our bodies way of regulating involuntary activities. It is a part of the Autonomic Nervous System and it tells our body what to do without our having to think about it. It just happens automatically. It says such things as “rest-and-digest” or “feed and breed”. This is because it is the system that tells us to relax and take it easy and it is also the system that stimulates sexual arousal.

The other part of the Autonomic System is the Sympathetic Nervous System. This system tells us to do the opposite. It’s a sort of “fight or flight” system.

Did you know that each individual can be prone to dependence on one or the other? It’s true. Individuals who have an ectomorphic body type (type I) tend to be more Sympathetic NS dependent giving them a long linear frame and ability to burn body fat and calories extremely well, sometimes too well. Endomorphic body types (type O) tend to store body fat, be more sedentary and struggle with a constant desire for food. These individuals tend to be Parasympathetic System (PNS) dominant. Those mesomorph (type V) body types tend to balance in the middle of the two systems and tend to posses a muscular frame and athletic build.

So have you determined which type you are?

We all have a type we wish we had or are drawn to. We all fit into one of these categories of types of body structures. But can I draw your attention to something deeper this morning?

Did you know you are God’s type?

We live in a world that is ever increasing in shallow and superficial focus and desires. We somewhere along the way strayed away from deeper things, stronger faith, healthy self image (because we weren’t all that entirely focused on our image to begin with). We once had plain and humble confidence in a Creator who created us to add value to the world around us, demonstrate gratitude and confidence in knowing all of life, well it isn’t about you, and that’s a good thing. How empty would life truly be if we knew we were only here for ourselves? I don’t know how many would truly enjoy lasting joy and edification with that sort of reality. Material success can be accomplished in this manner, but I’m not so sure the inside a heart of a man or woman could ever be content with this. There would always be a need for more. There would always be a lack of satisfaction.

So with all of that—don’t forget. God created you.

Heaven selected every detail about you, whether you are content with it or not. He likes the shape of your eyes, your body size and shape, your smile, your laugh and He cares about every aspect of you—even whether or not you can dance! He likes it all, every detail about you right down to every cell and system in your body. He designed you with great detail.

So if our bodies have such intricate design, don’t you think there was in fact a higher power who designed it? Seems all a little to advanced to be by chance, wouldn’t you agree? I know it takes faith to believe in God. But He believes in you after all. I am praying today He gives you an ounce of proof to prove to you how genuine His Love is for you. Trust me, an ounce of Him is all it will take for your heart to agree. That’s how rich and satisfying His Love truly is.

So whatever your type, even type O who may be on a diet right now, eat and drink deeply of Faith. It will satisfy and satiate, and man, you will feel great!

I pray Bold and Bountiful blessings over you today! ~Nicole

Discernment

Posted in Devotional, leadership tagged , , , , , , , , at 6:23 am by Broken & Brave

How is your discernment?

As Believers we need to be innocent as a dove, but wise like a serpent. How is your discernment? Few things will carry you as far as strong and keen as a sense of discernment.

Discernment will separate the right from the wrong, the correct from the error, the sin from the blessing. Discernment will bring wisdom, guidance and protection. We are rapidly headed into an age of deep shadows and false light. Shine bright and illuminate the night, but do it in love and do it with discernment!

~Nicole

“Lord, help us to see as you see. Navigate our path. Expose strongholds and false truth. Do it Lord! We depend on you!”

“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” Matthew 10:16

Graced to be Great

Posted in health and wellness tagged , , , , , , at 8:24 am by Broken & Brave

We live in such a superficial society.

Appearance is everything and vanity is it’s chief council.

There are countless strategies available to make us look and feel great. Everything from head to toe–you’re covered if you’re willing to spend the time, money and energy to consume what society is selling.

Sustenance is an interesting thing.

I have noticed over many years of my recent life that the more affluent circles of our nations population base are overall more physically fit with healthy weight management. There are exceptions to this, of course, but overall this population of people looks pretty darn good. Most likely this is because they can afford it. Healthy foods cost more than packaged and processed foods. Gym memberships and personal trainers or high end, small, semi-private group training/classes are the trend. The higher end society is looking for something customized to the detail and complete and they are willing to pay money for it.

I think the more affluent community understands that–like it or not–your appearance is your business card.

It can take over eighty encounters with a person to change a negative first impression according to a recent study done at Harvard. So how you look, how you present yourself and how you treat/handle others plays a large roll in how successful you will be at pretty much everything.

I am a health advocate.

An advocate is an ardent defender of people and purpose. It is the purpose God placed inside me to use health and fitness as my ministry.

I’m focused not only on improving strength, flexibility, overall health and vitality, but I’m all about equipping others for victorious living.

I’m all about disease prevention and holistic natural applications of sustenance, rest and movement all packaged in each individual unit.

•I’m about casting vision for the woman who wants to hang with her kids at Disney well in her elder years without needing to sit down a lot or rent a wheel chair just to enjoy the family fun.

•I’m about not being on a myriad of prescribed meds that has people so frightened to even take a multivitamin because it might interfere with their drugs.

• I’m definitely about empowering females to believe in themselves and create a deeper awareness of how wonderful their form is and what strength they possess (physically, spiritual, mentally) and how to harness it.

Relationships of a mentoring nature can be difficult. There is the temptation to personalize and take ownership of the results, successes or failures of other people. But it is not our personal responsibility to fix the world. I can guide, love, protect and direct–but ultimately it’s their life and they are free to make whatever choices they desire, even poor ones.

As the mentor we understand that at the end of the day we leave everyone and everything at the base of the Cross. We did our part and that is all we can do. Then you just pray that the time and energy and sacrifice you put into them will stick and something good will flourish from it.

It could be easy to rehash all the sacrifice and time you’ve invested. The temptation is to feel a sense of disloyalty or lack of gratitude. But that’s not necessarily true, so don’t swallow that bait.

These practical truths I’m sharing with you apply to all of life.

We are all leading someone, somewhere by our conduct, life and example. We are living breathing sustenance to someone else’s soul.

I am fortunate in all my career I’ve only ever encountered one person who I detected may have an eating disorder. In this case, it was anorexia/bolemia. I know the clues to look for, but that was years ago (totally different story from the one I just described). But when I look around society I see many, many in every age group, race and economic category who suffer from a sort of spiritual eating disorder. A Spiritual Anorexia. They are starving to death because they don’t eat the right things. I’m not talking about food, I’m talking about thought patterns, focuses and methods to comfort their own pain. Soul Sustenance. I see people also who see the Truth, whether it is about themselves, God or others, but they refuse to eat it.

Anorexia is ultimately a spirit. It goes after the mind and influences the decisions of the individual causing them to believe skipping meals is somehow the answer to their problems or the solution for controlling their world. Spiritual Anorexia functions the same way. Distorted truth and a reflection of self, others and the world around is skewed. I imagine there are many people who suffer from both, spiritual anorexia and the physical manifestation of the disease. After all, if it is a spirit, it’s going to do as much damage to the whole of a person as it can once its invited inside. Satan’s objective is to steal, kill and destroy.

We are all mentoring others each and every day. What you say and do carries tremendous value and when you know this and take it serious–understanding the big picture of your life’s objective, then you can make a positive impact that will last.

Consider yourself a seed carrier. You are scattering it everywhere. Some seeds will do nothing, find no home to imbed themselves in. Others will find fertile soil of heart with just the right conditions to flourish and grow, while others will only grow so much then stop. This is not up to us to decide who will do what. All we can do is love, avoid personal feelings of hurt, and carry on knowing you’ve done your part and others may enjoy a higher quality of life because of the mark you made upon their heart.

Leadership does not come without great personal sacrifice.

Feed your body the right stuff so it will last.

Feed your heart and mind the right stuff so you will surpass any form of greatness you’ve experienced in the past.

Feed your soul Truth, Love and the Inspired Word of God. It is Pure and Good Sustenance from Above.

And never forget…

Take Joy in the Journey…

You have been sustained by Grace to be Great.

~Nicole

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

1 Cor. 10:31

Prayer of Health & Healing:

Thank you, Lord, for the heavy price and sacrifice you paid as a ransom for my mind, body and soul.

It is you I adore.

I show my adoration to you by caring for my body, my spirit, my life.

I understand that I am not my own. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

I trust you to remind me and equip me to overcome with my eating, rest and exercise. I will not overindulge and I will make wise choices. I will not neglect to exercise my frame.

I know I will enjoy good health as you have promised (3 John 1:2)

Whatever I do I will honor you with everything I eat or drink. Remind me of this when I am tempted to dishonor you with my nutrition.

(1 Corinthians 10:31)

I will do all of this with a cheerful heart (Proverbs 17:22)

because your love is like medicine to me.

In all things I will be equipped and my arms strong for my tasks.

I will have no lack of energy or enthusiasm for healthy living.

I will be consistent, disciplined and fervent. (Proverbs 31:17)

I will enjoy the fruit of obedience and faithfulness as you guide with healing and rest.

I am secure and prosperous in all things.

(Jeremiah 33:6)

I will walk obediently in all you ask me to do and I receive my full inheritance, my full blessing of health and prosperity and protection. Just like Exodus 15:26 promises me.

I am whole.

I am healthy.

I am healed.

Amen!
